It might be an understatement to say that the buildup to Fez has felt incredibly long. That feeling has only been intensified by the handful of cryptic, brief teasers we’ve been drip-fed over the past four years. Incredibly, though, not only does Fez totally exist, but it was playable at PAX East this year – and Polytron has released a video playthrough of the entire PAX East demo for your visual enjoyment.
Please watch:
Is it just me, or does this look like the most polished game maybe ever? It’s got that nice, crisp, clean, everything-just-works look to it, which is a pretty incredible achievement considering the crazy perspective-shifting and the stunning visual style going on. Four years later, I can actually feel myself getting more excited to play this game. How crazy is that?
If you want a bit more, Destructoid’s Jon Holmes has a great (and impressive) video where he simultaneously interviews Phil Fish and one-handedly plays through this Fez demo. Fish drops a couple great tidbits, including that the game features pixel art contributions by everyone’s favorite dude Paul Robertson. Neat!
But man, between the incredible artwork, the Disasterpeace soundtrack and everything in between, I think we’ll be hard-pressed to find a game with more or better atmosphere this year. HURRY UP AND COME OUT, FEZ. WE WANT YOU.

GORGEOUS. There’s no way this thing stays XBLA exclusive, right? Way too much time and effort, unless the entire thing’s being funded by Microsoft. Also, is it just me or does this kinda have a Doki Doki Panic vibe goin’ on? I’m seriously feeling Super Mario Bros 2-2.
Holmes does some good cross-examining of Fish on the subject of other platforms during their video interview (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyEERm4_t3E). Fish seems open to the idea, but basically says that since the development team is essentially just two dudes, it’s not something they’ve had time to work on or even think about yet. Luckily, it doesn’t sound like there’s any Meat-Boy-type contract with Microsoft preventing them from bringing the game elsewhere.
I got to play this at PAX until I borked out the game for restarting it – whoops. I am soo looking forward to it.
So burned out on just the buzz for this game. This and Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet. You know there is something like over developing.
Now the both show up with new trailers and we’re supposed to be excited again? Yeah, I’m not getting excited so I can wait for another year only to discover that I can’t play them because they’re XBLA exclusive. Screw you all, I’m taking my ball and going home.
(Plus, Babel. Just saying.)
