8-Bit Dr. Horrible is one of those rare things on the internet that is exactly what it purports to be: it’s Joss Whedon’s fantastic supervillain musical (or at least Act I of it), redone in that classic 8-bit style that the kids seem to like so much nowadays.

This whole thing was put together by Doctor Octoroc, the guy who composed the Christmas/video game tribute album 8-Bit Jesus, so yeah, this dude definitely has some firsthand experience with creative chiptune reimaginings.

While the actual animation ends at the Wonderflonium heist scene, the creator has put up the entire 8-bit album for free, and it contains every single painstakingly rebuilt song off the original soundtrack, complete with album art, free. How can you beat that?

Doc says that he’s not completely sure when Acts II and III will be completed, but to keep our eyes peeled for something “within the next few weeks or so”. We will, buddy. We will.
