Was it really necessary to make a Minecraft-themed parody of that Dead Island trailer that the internet spent the past week freaking out over? Probably not.
But are we glad someone put the time and effort in to do it? Yes. Absolutely yes.
This wonderful piece of work was put together by Norwegian YouTuber Dennis Vareide using little more than Fraps, Sony Vegas Pro 9 and Adobe After Effects. If you want to see more of his (largely Minecraft-related) work, check out his YouTube channel. Well done, Dennis!

Every time I think a zombie apocalypse would be cool, trailers like Dead Island or comics like Walking Dead bring me back to realty and make me realize that if it ever happened it would be the worst thing any of us have ever experienced. This inspired me to watch the real trailer. Honestly, I think if I was a little more emotionally soft at this moment I would have cried. Brilliant trailer. Absolutely brilliant. I don’t even think I want to play the game, because if it’s anything like that it will be the first zombie video game I will be bawling through.
It’s funny that the most common responce I’ve heard to the original trailer is people saying “Meh, I’m done with zombie games now.” What I think they probably mean is similar to what you said, that it was so emotional that it put them right off zombies as a game. That trailer and Dead Walking really drives home the point that Zombies aren’t fun, they’re tragic. And we don’t want that. We’ve enjoyed the guilt free murder of the undead for years. Heck, we’ve been doing them a favor. But not any more.
Chances are the game won’t be anything like that. The trailer is done by some folks who are really good at making dramatic trailers. The game was probably going to be some standard zombie killing fare. Maybe the trailer went a bit too far?
