A year ago, four guys left their high-level positions at established, well-known developers like Criterion, EA and Climax and founded their own four-man developing studio. One of those guys sold his house to found the company. That company was Hello Games. And today they announced their first title!
Joe Danger is a stunt racing motocross game expected to hit Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, and PC approximately by Spring 2010. We don’t know much other than what can be spotted in the two very, very tiny screenshots they included in the release (whose alt text reads “Coin Dash” and “Race!”, probably the names of two game modes), but by using my eyes, I can describe it to you. It looks like Trials HD, but in an alternate universe where everything is built out of Super Mario Galaxy assets and where Trials HD was as much like Excitebike as everyone kept assuming it was.

Maybe I’m a little biased because the managing director name-drops Super Monkey Ball in his biography, but everything about Hello Games seems to absolutely drip with good intentions and a desire to make fun, arcade-y games. I can get down with that.
Do you think Joe Danger look sick as hell? Let us know in the comments!

Isn’t there an online racing game for PC where you build your own stunt tracks and stuff? Obviously it’s not the same as this, but I bring it up because I just would not go in for online FPS games, but this and that are on my “if I ever did go in for online gaming, this is the online gaming I’d go in for” list.
Joe, you’re talking about Trackmania, which is maybe my favorite arcade racing game of all time. So good. Super minimalist, arcadey, arrow-keys-only time attack with lots of customizability.
Trackmania Nations is the free, ad-supported version of Trackmania and it will ruin your life if you let it. Get it here: http://store.steampowered.com/app/11020/
NOOOOOO!
I’d never work on another game again.
Why yes, Nick. It does look sick as hell.
And LOOK at all the pretty colors! I LOVE that game’s artstyle!
If you like that, check out this Offworld article full of Hello Games concept art. Truly some great-looking stuff.

I hope all of that makes its way into their future games. Looking at those cube-headed dudes results in an instant and immediate compulsion within me to catch ‘em all.
I love the way this game looks. Can’t wait to play it!
3nd?
