This week, we’re covering games made for last weekend’s Ludum Dare, an online game development competition wherein contestants have exactly 48 hours to make a video game from scratch. Ludum Dare 18′s theme was “Enemies as Weapons”.
D3SCENT is an attractive little Metroidvania by moltanem2000 with a rad monochromatic art style. You take the role of a robot in some sort of cavern who is quickly tasked with collecting three 100 springs for the area’s defense system. If 100 collectibles seems like a lot for a game made in 48 hours, well… without giving anything away, let’s just say the creator found a way around that.
When I call it a Metroidvania, I’m not using the term lightly. There’s everything you’d expect from the genre: backtracking, new powers, simple puzzles, but it’s all crammed into a game you’ll be able to get through in just a few minutes. Sure, only the puzzle elements seem to incorporate the “Enemies as Weapons” theme, but it’s still a fun little game that is worth checking out for the charmingly minimal pixel art alone.

Got some bugs that made it way to hard to get the second ending, which was kinda disappointing when I got to it.
Oh hey! Thanks for the Review/Feature or whatever! This is an exciting first.
