Guess what today is? If you guessed “roughly four months since the last Ludum Dare,” you’d be right! The 48-hour game development event starts tonight at 9 PM EST, and we’re gonna keep up our 2010 tradition of covering a few of the resulting games next week once the competition ends. So get all sorts of hyphy for that.

In the meantime, though, there’s still one thing to look forward to: the theme for LD19 has yet to be selected! The results of all five initial rounds of theme voting (including the fantastic Silly Themes category) have concluded, and the best performers from each have been entered into the self-explanatory Final Round. Here are the last themes standing:

  • Aftermath
  • Being lost
  • Containment
  • Created but never destroyed
  • Demolition
  • Depth
  • Digging
  • Discovery
  • Don’t die
  • Elements
  • Energy
  • Evolution
  • Game based on a year
  • Sacrifice
  • Seeds
  • Text Input Action Game
  • That was unexpected
  • The Unknown
  • Time travel
  • Vulnerability

Any members of the Ludum Dare community are still free to vote on their favorite remaining category. The winner will be announced when the competition begins tonight.

Competitors: have fun not sleeping! Everyone else: look forward to a grip of sweet free games on Christmas week!
