It’s the beginning of a new and excitingly different story! Welcome to Master Quest!
After all the GDC craziness wound down last week, I rolled by the fabulous Best Western Americania (yes, that’s the actual name) to talk to someone whose work I’ve admired for a while: Danny Baranowsky, the composer of the soundtracks for games like Super Meat Boy, Canabalt, Gravity Hook, and Steambirds. We took an hour and talked about his influences, his creative process, and how his career has developed over the last couple years.
It was a lot of fun to really get to talk to someone in-depth about their work, as opposed to fitting it all into a 3-minute video segment. I think it’s something I’d like to do more often. Let me know what you think down below!

I liked it, especially cool that you’re doing composers too. How often are you shooting for with these?
Not sure yet. It certainly won’t be a weekly thing – Maybe every other week or even once a month? Basically, I don’t want to try to create an episode when one isn’t there – I want to really be sure I’ve got a great guest. I’m also going to try to use things like Skype as little as possible. I like being face to face with someone for something like this.
Love the new format. Hopefully this will allow you to do more Bytejacker per week.
Are all of the Master Quest guests going to be made to smoke a bowl before recording? *fingers crossed*
No one is ever MADE to smoke a bowl prior to Master Quest. The option is simply presented.

Now I feel like a dick for listening to Alice in Chains while playing Super Meat Boy ;p.
