I don’t think anyone saw this coming. Zombie Cow Studios, best known for their 2D adventure games Ben There, Dan That! and Time Gentlemen, Please!, have finally revealed that Privates project they’ve been teasing for a little while…and it’s a dual-joystick sidescrolling shooter.

Privates is, carefully, a game about impossibly small soldiers who fight venereal disease. And if you don’t find that pun funny, you should probably avoid the game altogether. The rest of us can be excited that there’s a new title coming from two of the funniest game writers adjacent to the North Sea. (If there are some hilarious Nordic game devs I’ve forgotten about, I apologize in advance.) Privates looks to be departing from past Zombie Cow works in quite a few ways, in that it’ll be fully voice-acted, intricately soundtracked, and…possibly educational. You never know with these fellas.

What’s especially cool about the game is that it’s being funded entirely by British TV station Channel 4, and will be given out for free on PC later this summer. Privates is also coming to Xbox Live, but will probably be significantly less free when it arrives there. Check out the gallery of off-putting, fairly uncomfortable screenshots below:
