Aww… House Globe isn’t even in the top 10? =(
what about Fillauth?!
Wow! I never thought I’d make anyone’s top 10 list! I feel totally outclassed by everyone else on the list, not to mention all those entries that aren’t on the list that are much more awesome than what I did. I’m glad that you enjoyed it so much!
We are honoured to make the cut (#10 with a prayer). While I haven’t had a chance to play all 68(!) entries, standouts for me (excluding the bytejacker 10) include “Katamaran Vs Dalmatian Giraffe” for the great & strange gameplay, and “VipeUt Vectrex” for an accurate recreation of a fuzzy green vector monitor (including colour overlay). Amazing stuff!
Fantastic round up, great work!
Excluding the stuff you mentioned, I really liked House Globe, Freefall Brass and Lady Boy Love Collection. Also Macarena of the Missing, which was probably my overall favourite from the contest. Though I guess with so much awesome on display it’s hard to catch everything… :P
Thanks for the Squish mention too!
Hats off for playing almost 70 games to make this episode!
And thanks again for that wonderful review…you’re way too nice. :) I can’t wait to show this to Magic Smiling Ca–I mean, Francisco (Poor guy’s been typecast).
@bigpants – I was looking forward to trying VipeUt out, but I had issues getting it running on my system. The video that astrofra posted looked awesome. For any Wipeout fans/anyone interested: http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=2422.0
@jeb and raigan – Both oxeye entries definitely caught my eye and entertained me – Fillauth gets a shoutout in the intro to this episode. And Jeb, if there’s anything you want to tell me about that Harvest iPhone mock-up, my email’s always open. ;)
yeah, i saw that once i actually watched the episode.. oops ;)
@theparticleman – I think the reason Griselda resonated so much with me is that I had disks and disks of games like it for my PC Jr. I remember having a particularly authentic-feeling ASCII Donkey Kong as well as a not-so-great Super Mario Bros.
I wasn’t allowed to have my Nintendo in my room, but I WAS allowed to have my computer in there, so the ASCII versions were played even more than the legit ones.
@Anthony: you were lucky, _I_ wasn’t allowed a console outright! Not sure if this is the same game, but I remember PC Arcade on our 286, which included an awesome ASCII version of Donkey Kong.
All I can say is that I’m extremely proud of everyones efforts. It’s not everyday people take the time to do what you all did. Making games is an extremely time consuming process and the fact that everyone worked so hard to do these for this competition truly amazes me. Great job to all of you, even if we didn’t get to mention you in the episode we truly appreciate what you all continue to do.
Keep it up
[..YouTube..] You’re doing it wrong. Allow me to help. Kah-tah-mah-ree Dah-mah-she. Eee-kah-roo-gah
[..YouTube..] What, no love for Sexy Seaside Beachball? The theme song alone is eating my head.
[..YouTube..] Unfortunately, we were among the people who had issues installing Sexy Seaside Beachball. Curse you, XNA!
[..YouTube..] Oh. :(
I also never was allowed a console. Computers were by console and i was grateful. Learned BASIC on my C64 and played ASCII games on a ZX81. By the time I got a PC jr shareware CGA were the games d’jour but I still loved typing those old BASIC games in GW-BASIC, when I wasn’t tinkering with Turbo Pascal.
It’s no wonder I’m so warped.
Wooo! My game got winner of the universe!
@CMspice: Dude we LOVED your video!! Way to think outside the box ;)
[...] Take a look! [...]
Great roundup!
This compo ate up all of my free time, but it was a hoot and I am stunned by both the amount and quality of the games entered! :D
Finally I now have a weekend free to play all of the other superb looking entries!
Sadly our entry (Large-Scale Vehicular Stealing) was plagued by compatibility issues due to developing with XNA. :( Although after the compo closed we did create a proper installer to fix all of that. So if you tried and failed to get it running and fancy a look, grab the nice installer version here:

Or alternatively we made a vid of it, done in the style of an 80′s video-game shop promo trailer.
(Complete with 80′s rock to fit the era and style we were Bootleg-Demaking for) ;)

I look forward to the next one!
I found this because they linked to you from tigsource. Awesome work! I”ve gone watch all of the past episodes. Great stuff you now hold a spot in my favorites. Very near the top too. Keep it up!

@bigpants
@Anthony
Thanks both of you for the kind words. I’m really sorry that VipeUt was that hard to launch on many systems, especially for it supposed to mimic a 1Mhz machine.
Actually, I knew even before I started VipeUt that ppl would have a hard time to enjoy it, because the engine i’m working with is awesome, but still under development, and mainly targeted at nextgen stuff :)
Anyway, thx Anthony, especially for this review that enlights some of the best TIG Demakes entries !!!
I miss aquarium.
@Elmernite :I also find this videos cause tigsource.
@magallanes
U’re right, Aquarium is a freakin’ cool demake !

Hey there guys thanks for your excellent coverage on the compo, and big thanks for honouring me with the no.2 spot! I hope the game didn’t play like it looks on the video… It’s running super sloooow on there! It’s not meant to be that slow, haha.
[..YouTube..] I’m pretty disappointed that Bootleg Bash wasn’t mentioned or showed at all. :/
I know it wasn’t one of the best, but it controlled fairly well, and I thought most people would get a kick out of NES Smash Bros.
@Superflat
Sorry it ran a bit slow for us. I actually thought that’s how it was meant to be, which made me laugh even harder cause the original was so slow as well :) Either way, well done on the game I hope that you’ll eventually finish it. I wanna see a pixelated Pyramid head OH SO BAD!
[..YouTube..] Wowowowowowow. DEMAKE COMPETITION? Some of this stuff is honestly amazing. Thanks for posting!!!
