Sunset Riders isn’t a beat ‘em up! It is an awesome game, though.
“Bury me with my money!”
Cowboys > Ninjas
I don’t care what any of you think, and don’t even bring gay cowboys into this!
Okay, so it’s a ‘beat-em-up/shooter hybrid.’
But it’s still better than TMNT.
Damn right Sunset Riders is better than TMNT.
The best video game weapon ever is quite simply Hugo.

He should also win the award for best facial expressions in the world.

“That’s why you’re STILL a KID!” has the potential to be a meme.
My favourite weapon? Shower head from Dead Rising.
And OH NO! You typo-ed Flashbang Studios.
@Trotim – It has to potential to cause a migraine.
Eep! We’ll get that typo fixed.
I can’t believe no one is freaking out about the fact that we’re leaving the roof. I guess it IS still early…
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO….
You better find another roof. You better…
Also, I secretly knew Onslaught was average, but I didn’t wanna’ admit it. Review Noby Noby Boy next week!
@trotim – sorry for the typo, if you had any clue what hell we went through to get this episode done, you’d have overlooked it just like I did. Thanks for finding it though, I’ll get it tonight,
Also, the roof man!!!!! I miss it already!
awwwwww man the roof is dead :(………why are you moving?
You must get a new roof!
You must!
Crate Gun is great, not that a teleporter isn’t handy.
-Elmernite
Holy shit, you guys. I love you.
I’ll have to correct you though – You have unlimited time in IAB, but you get a higher score the more hookers you save.
(I stand by the crate gun I created as the best weapon!)
@Andreas – We love you, too, man. Bromance.
Yeah, I can see how someone could interpret the way I phrased that as thinking the levels had a time limit. There certainly ISN’T one, and I know because I suck so bad at puzzle games that I spend WAY too long on every level.
In another brothel doesn’t have a chance. Not a chance. Tho it does prompt the “coolest gun” discussion. How about a gun that shoots shurikens and lightning? I haven’t seen it myself but Yahtzee seems to like it.
I’m not voting for blush because everyone’s been creaming their pants over it this past week. If it weren’t for Guardians of Altarris I’d be voting for Andreas’ game.
So when are the polls going to open up?
I like the new format MUCH better, please keep it this way – it gives a pseudo review of each game, instead of just a quick blurb – Although I know the point is to try all three, this helps to know if a game is TEH SUCK before wasting our time. Go bytejacker.
P.S. – Anthony, you’re not high because if you WERE high you’d think ALL weapons are the best.
Where my HUmars at? {seesmic_video:{“url_thumbnail”:{“value”:”http://t.seesmic.com/thumbnail/2sryUpncM5_th1.jpg”}”title”:{“value”:”Where my HUmars at? ”}”videoUri”:{“value”:”http://www.seesmic.com/video/oKGhSqGJ9h”}}}
So we’ve pretty much gone full circle. From single episodes to double pieces back to single episodes. Hopefully it just works out at least. Now to the games…
Bias-O-Meter=2 – One for each site restricted game of course.
Blush is a very dreamy artsy game involving a squid, The whole whipping around to defeat enemies is actually similar to another steam punk game involving a ship swinging a large weighted mace. Fun sort of contest score game if you like that sort of thing.
Guardians of Altarris is a good classic beatemup even as a flash based game. The attacks and motions are smooth and it feels fun to go into a brawl with it. If we’re talking about older fighting games, how about battletoads, huh? huh???
In Another Brothel is the sort of title that initially sounded like a certain plumber parody quote. I’ll let you figure it out first. As a puzzle game, it is that. Like a sort of more free roaming version of fire and ice and just it involves rescuing dames. Or maybe it just has to do with how many crates you can fill the level with before you cant escape.
And the weapon of choice is.. exploding shuriken.
I like the new, longer format. The shorter episodes always felt too short. I don’t know if it was just me, but it felt like Anthony talked slower in this one. Feeling less rushed? I think the more satisfied feeling after watching it, combined with the lower overhead of only producing one episode makes the one episode per week deal a win. Now I just have to figure out something to look forward to watching on Mondays.
Too bad to hear about the roof. But I’m sure you’ll find another great venue at your new place. I’d offer to help you move, but I don’t even know where you live. So, um, yeah. I guess I won’t help you move. I’m going to go write code instead. Code for a game that’s going to be so awesome it’ll clean up on Free Indie of the Week! Note: Actual clean up-age dependent on my game not sucking sufficiently to actually be featured on Free Indie of the Week as well as someone actually voting for it.
Coolest gun, eh? Well there are some obvious choices like the spread gun on Contra (for it’s time it was cool), the flak cannon and rocket launcher from the original UT, and any fruit or sheep based weapons on Worms. I think my current favorite weapon might be one in a game I made. It’s a tower defense game (currently an overdone genre, I know. But it was fun to make) where the towers are Mario in different suits from SMB3. The frog Mario shoots those giant fish that eat you in one swallow on those annoying water levels. But in this game they eat the bad guys that are trying to get to the princess. The animation and sound just worked out very nicely. Maybe that’s not technically a gun though, is it?
Kind of sad you didn’t enjoy Onslaught more, I’m really having a good time with it, even as a guy who also plays FPS games on the PC and, very occasionally, the 360 (I’m sorry, but FPS’s with dual-analog controls just kinda suck compared to using a mouse, and always have, and that’s that.)
Sure, there’s not a whole lot to Onslaught, but there’s not a very hefty price on it either. The get-the-high-score arcade nature of the game makes playing through levels again more appealing – you can definitely adjust technique to get higher scoring combos on your 2nd or 3rd times – and while I wish there was more than one enemy arena for Ranked Battles online, it is a really big level with lots of ways to run through it in the time limit – again, it’s a high score thing. That might be a little too arcade-y for most FPS fans, but it makes sense coming from Hudson. It feels a little like the design aesthetic of The Club, for anyone who played that.
Also, the Wii pointer controls work really, really well (up there with Metroid Prime 3 and Call of Duty: World at War, IMO), and the locational damage spots on the enemies give a nice pseudo-headshot feel to quick kills (as close as you can get to a headshot on enemies that arguably don’t have heads).
So yeah, I understand your complaints with it, but I didn’t have much trouble getting $10 of enjoyment out of it.
Blades of CHAOS? {seesmic_video:{“url_thumbnail”:{“value”:”http://t.seesmic.com/thumbnail/AM5NdLRoQV_th1.jpg”}”title”:{“value”:”Blades of CHAOS? ”}”videoUri”:{“value”:”http://www.seesmic.com/video/LZiNwZnNoQ”}}}
I gotta vote for Blush. It has squidy things, it gets my vote, it’s that simple.
Best weapon? Either ‘The Worlds Most Interesting Bomb’ from MDK or that one in Hexen that let you turn other players into little piggies. I remember calling it the ‘porkulator’, not sure if that’s cannon though.
For the best weapon in a game, I’m going to have to vote for proximity mines in Goldeneye. Some of my greatest videogame memories come from 4 player split screen running around the library just hearing *beep beep* *BOOM* Wah wah waaa waaaaaah Flang. Less and less people swanted to play me at multiplayer over time. :(
My favorite video game weapon are of course owls from Rescue: The Beagles. Though i’m not sure if that is a weapon at all, you don’t shoot owls, they follow you around and you ask them politely to attack the bad guys.
These are all great suggestions, guys! Be sure to leave them on the voicemail or record a video so we can get them on the show!
Favourite weapon? Gotta be the holy hand grenade from the Worms series. Monty Python references? Religious satire? Blowing half the map away after a short choral number? Sheer brilliance. The Phantasy Star story made me sad…I feel your pain! Loving the new episode format: YE GODS, BYTEJACKER DOTH ROCK!

I’m all about the basics: the missiles from Metroid. Remember, when God closes a door he gives you a missile pack so you can blow the fucking thing up.
Oh my god Anthony I’m so sorry! That’s… that’s fucking horrible. At least these kinds of things don’t exist anymore…
…do you agree that the first sector’s music and the music of the caves is just awesome?
Great comments! {seesmic_video:{“url_thumbnail”:{“value”:”http://t.seesmic.com/thumbnail/bDz0YQXamH_th1.jpg”}”title”:{“value”:”Great comments! ”}”videoUri”:{“value”:”http://www.seesmic.com/video/2RvRPL5nPK”}}}
Excellent episode. The humor seemed a lot less forced, which is something you should focus on in the future.
Yeah, focus on not forcing your humor. But don’t force your focus or you’ll be right back where you started. Just focus on letting it flow. The best was it to not focus on it. But if you have to focus on anything just focus on not focusing on it so it can just flow. Otherwise it’ll be forced.
Yet another comment that was funnier before I tried typing it out.
I think you need to focus more Joe
jon that humor was forced.
