Hm… Better to comment here or Youtube, I wonder.
Most Frustrating Video Game Moment? I sunk a lot of time into playing Phantasy Star Online back on the Dreamcast and when practically EVERY enemy could spray the insta-death spell Megid at you? I wish it killed me instead of my character.
Also: Any Escort/Protection Mission in any game ever. Can’t they just wait until I finishing mowing people down before they follow me?
SO TRUE. Escort missions are the worst. I particularly hate them in free-roaming space battle games.
“Protect this one tiny ship from an entire army that can move anywhere on any axis.”
PASS, THANKS.
well the old roof is real pretty and i love it, but the new roof is more exciting with all the cars passing and stuff happening on the highway. if we send some strange tasty cookies to the landlord, will he unlock it?
aside from that, the feedback montage was BEAUTIFUL! there’s some intense happy power coming out of it.
also, nice free indie picks, i will play them later today and come back with my thoughts on the games. lies, the pixely flying platformer won me over already.
Great episode, great roof this week.
Most frustrating gaming moment ever has to be any random screen of I Wanna Be The Guy, where you, after 20-something tires finally reach that platform you thought where safe, just to see a star from the background fall down and kill you. Not fair, frustrating as hell, but pretty fun.
Ghosts ‘n’ Goblins for the NES in general was a pretty frustrating game. Not only is it the hardest of the GnG games, but you must get the shield BOTH times before you beat it. Forgetting that shield was a pain in the butt.
In before Battletoads. (Psst, I think GnG is harder)
My vote for this week’s Free Indie Rapid Fire? Deathbeam, because it has a laser. Lasers make everything better.
LOL @ “In Before Battletoads.”
I WANNA BE THE GUY…any moment of the game you choose :) i hade more than 1000 deaths :P…but…i love…hate…love the game :)
Man, just watching a video of a playthrough of IWBTG stresses me out. That game is so devious.
Hey I played this cool game called Solis
http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/solis
Most frustrating moment in a video game? Any level with a flying shell in Rayman 2: The Great Escape. Controlling that thing is hard as hell. It once took me a whole afternoon just to beat the final boss.
I knew my vote for free indie of the week before I even saw the episode. Deathbeam. Cause I think I recommended it.
Where do you guys get the game clips you use? Had a lot of them today.
Thanks for setting up the donation page. I donated my 2 bucks, plus another 2 more for someone else. I wish I could do more.

Thanks to you and your mysterious benefactor for the donations! We’re getting closer every day!
update avoiding blurry pixels for tombed and z key to avoid shift “sticky” problem http://www.auntiepixelante.com/?p=424
most frustrating moment? my copy of grim fandango crashing consistently at about 9/10 of the way through.. never have finished it.
Nice work, Jeff! I’ll edit the post to mention the update.
Most Frustrating Psychonauts {seesmic_video:{“url_thumbnail”:{“value”:”http://t.seesmic.com/thumbnail/flZdISlirO_th1.jpg”}”title”:{“value”:”Most Frustrating Psychonauts ”}”videoUri”:{“value”:”http://www.seesmic.com/video/GensxyFhmH”}}}
Dude the Meat Circus in Psychonauts drove me insane. It wasn’t just that the difficulty ramped up but there was also a recurring sound effect of someone hacking up phlegm every few seconds. It was like listening to the maddening sound of a tap that wont stop dripping … if the sound of a tap dripping also made you want to puke.
Star Wars: Rebel Assault 2 (Chapter 3)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66QH65aIy8o
The non-shooting flight sequence at the start of the game easily rivals the speeder bike parts within Battletoads.
Dude, sucks that landlord to locked you out of your new roof. Have you updated your emergency zombie uprising survival strategy in light of this?
Dude… I am a walking zombie uprising survival plan. In case of emergency, GET BEHIND ME. I KNOW THE WAY.
For me the most frustrating thing was trying to play “Through the Fire and Flames” on expert mode in Guitar Hero III. I had beaten the career mode, but just wasn’t capable of passing the first 20 seconds of the song. Spent about twenty minutes failing just as quickly as the last try before saying “F*ck it!”

FACT #1: Kittens love anything that has to do with the apocalypse, because they’re planning it at all times.
FACT #2: If you’re not watching Pixel Babble, Ben’s new gaming show, you are a BAD PERSON. http://www.pixelbabble.com
I guess the most frustrating was Star Wars Force Unleashed, when you need to bring down a Big ship using your force and sticks on Xbox360 controller. There is a bug in hinting ui and it’s freaking HARD! I am 27 years old and I was embarassed of my anger when I was killed 50th time. And when I was searching web for solution I realised that I’m not the only one. It was frustrating because some asshole gamedesigner just did his job BAD. I guess that was the main cause. I never played it since…
I’d say the most frustrating video game moment would be… trying to solve any damn puzzle in Schizm: Mysterious Journey. Those things were so convoluted and complicated! Completely impossible. A lot of them were really mathematical too.
Most frustrating game moment:
fighting Alma in Ninja Gaiden(the XBOX one)
on “very hardcore” mode (the “core” meaning no health bar upgrades).
I think it must have taken me over 50 tries.
here’s a video to give you an idea of how hard it is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5nT2G320Gw
great episode! All three of these weeks games sounded great!
Most frustrating moment?
Getting past the DCK2 special world and completing the game 102%
Also lands under the most Satisfying game moment ever.
-Ken
If you defeat something, can it truly be the MOST frustrating moment? To me the most frustrating moments are those that you have to leave and never finish. Result, frustration to this very day.
My most frustrating game moment has to be the final chapter of the story mode in F-Zero GX. Belting round a narrow track with no walls at 800 kilometers per hour against an enemy you can’t knock off is just infuriating. It took me about 80 attempts on the easiest setting.
Every chapter in the story mode was incredibly difficult.
The Peggle Compels You {seesmic_video:{“url_thumbnail”:{“value”:”http://t.seesmic.com/thumbnail/2Ky8Gn4sdB_th1.jpg”}”title”:{“value”:”The Peggle Compels You ”}”videoUri”:{“value”:”http://www.seesmic.com/video/ZWWpYJGw8n”}}}
Oh dear god. It’s spread to WoW?
We’re too late. Quick, everyone to the underground shelters. We’ll just have to wait this out and then rebuild mankind.
Lol, at least in this you can “duel” other players in Peggle, you can announce your scores in guild chat, AND you can use this to roll on items instead of /roll.
Off that topic Deathbeam is my choice for 3 reasons, I can play on mah Mac, impending beam of doom, and the controls are nice when needing to run away from a rainbow beam while saving others who weren’t smart enough to bring a jet pack.
Mario Galaxy {seesmic_video:{“url_thumbnail”:{“value”:”http://t.seesmic.com/thumbnail/PEnxGF7FCY_th1.jpg”}”title”:{“value”:”Mario Galaxy ”}”videoUri”:{“value”:”http://www.seesmic.com/video/yK6yfCBEIA”}}}
Galaxy’s a bitch, but it’s no Sunshine… {seesmic_video:{“url_thumbnail”:{“value”:”http://t.seesmic.com/thumbnail/weCqHE2O19_th1.jpg”}”title”:{“value”:”Galaxy’s a bitch, but it’s no Sunshine… ”}”videoUri”:{“value”:”http://www.seesmic.com/video/sD4k42aZEi”}}}
That’s hilarious cause I was torn between Galaxy and Sunshine. That game was ridiculously hard. I never finished it out of frustration.
I forgot to mention in my previous replies, if Earthworm Jim got forgotten it’s because its creator, Doug TenNapel, outdid it with Neverhood.
Bias-O-Meter=1 – Deathbeam Just wouldnt work on any of my computers.
Tombed feels very much like Mr Driller even with the addition of descending spikes of death. But having said that, it’s pretty fun. It was probably because of the contest itself but the game was short and conquered in less than an hout…
Dont Save the Princess is an amusing puzzle game with the antihero theme in mind. Only because I was very good at puzzle games in anything that this didnt last longer than an hour either. The game got the better points because with an editor in the wild, anyone could make a harder set of levels!
Deathbeam could have been fun for a game with a jetpack.. if only worked…
Trials 2: Second Edition could anything be more frustrating? And I am not talking about hard levels… putting your leg in a blender is way less painful than trying beat those…
Omigod. That feedback montage was soooo epic. Only one problem though: please put the comments back into the FIRF vote. I know you want to save time, but it seems pointless really without them. And also, my pick was right at the end! Stop isolating me, guys.
The most frustrating moments are already here, so I’m gonna’ be a bit more recent and go for MKWii. Seriously, the AI is so unbalanced and unfair in that game, I STILL haven’t got all the 100cc cups. I just couldn’t be bothered after the upteenth time trying.
My most FRUSTRATING video game moment….was half my fault. It took place in God of War, for the PS2. I decided I was awesome and chose to play it on God mode, the hardest difficulty. Big mistake. days later, and about a thousand checkpoint restarts past, I made it to the final battle. I was pumped. I thought “I’ve got this, Ares is going DOWN!” ….How wrong was I? Oh. Very wrong. he wiped the floor with me about 8 times. Finally, I beat him. Then the 2nd segment of the fight took place. By some fluke of luck, after the 10th try or so, I completed it. The final segment of the fight was intense. After about 8 more tries, I finally got Ares down to his last bit of health. I activated the kill minigame, and upon the two of them clashing swords, indicating my victory… MY GAME FROZE!!! AAAAAAAUUUUGHGHGH!!!! needless to say, I haven’t beaten it on God Mode. I haven’t even attempted it. The mere thought makes me want to set my PS2 on fire. With my EYES!
Dude I can’t imagine how frustrating that must have been. Beating Ares in normal mode was devious enough let alone the fact that you even made it to him in god mode. You deserve a medal. If that happened to me I’d probably throw my ps2 out of my window . . . literally!
Oh my God… this happened to me , too! On normal mode though, not God mode. Still, I had to beat Ares and then restart 3 OR 4 TIMES before it finally made it through the sword clash without freezing up.
Seriously. I wanted to lose my mind. I wanted to tear the game disk from the system, devour it, ravage the ps2 with something–anything I could grab to deal damage with, and in the end, curl up in the fetal position and weep. haha. Playing through the game on hard mode… it’s just something that probably shouldn’t be done by any sane person. it’s a good way to lose your mind. needless to say, I haven’t even given the attempt on GoW2. Screw that. O_o
Most frustrating gaming moment? Easy. The horror of R: Tape Loading Error.
YEEEAAARRRGGGHHH! The memories come flooding back!
Great, now I need therapy.
My most frustrating game moment is in Final Fantasy X, when Tidus falls into the water and Waaka has to fight the Giant Jelly fish/octopus thing. I still have not finished that part and I’ve had that game for years.
It’s gonna be so hard to figure out which of these games I’m gonna pick, I have had some real fun with all of them. I will say that I got a real kick out of Tombed (which I kept reading as Tom Bed when I was downloading it). The best part about beating it is that it looks like everything on the screen is going up when you’re done playing. :P
My most frustrating moment in all video game history {seesmic_video:{“url_thumbnail”:{“value”:”http://t.seesmic.com/thumbnail/3prVltJsa4_th1.jpg”}”title”:{“value”:”My most frustrating moment in all video game history ”}”videoUri”:{“value”:”http://www.seesmic.com/video/QxDJxrWq4r”}}}
Hmm, most frustrating video game moment…this isn’t really the game’s fault, but back when Pokemon Red was out, I was a Pokemon fanatic. I had logged about 100 hours into Red when I got the glitch where the Pokemon with a weird name shows up while you are surfing near Ember Island…it corrupted my data and I had to start over. I was traumatized :O

I Wanna Be The Guy – definitely
there are plenty of frustrating moments in gaming that we’ve all faced at some point, lots of popular ones but i have to say its been a while since i threw the controller in rage.
theres lots that deserve honorable mentions
most recent for me was seth in street fighter 4, when my copy arrived early i figured i needed to get back into the rythm and put it on hardest setting and demolished the single player up to fight your rival in about 20 minutes or so.
I then spent the next hour and 50 minutes being sonic boomed, chain shoryuken’d and spinning pile drivered into oblivion, when i finally did it I did the adrenaline rush battlecry and then had the girlfriend come in and scold me as it was 1 in the morning.
Then there’s any time you ever get stuck in a point and click adventure and end up haveing a WTF moment when you find out what to do next. Personal favourite for this is grim fandago that game is insanely hard but thoroughly worth it.
and not to forget any game with a lives system, from the oldskool era such as paperboy, ghouls and ghosts, alex the kid, contra and metal slug, when you run out of that last continue and have to start all over again.
my pick goes to ninja gaiden (whole series) mainly because to make a game addictive and still fun the player is supposed to feel like its their fault if something goes wrong so they want to try again (can see why you hated that mario sunshine bit Carboni, its the perfect example)
runner up being prince of persia on 360 for the descent from the tower section in the warriors area more than thirty actions in a row if you mess any of them up you have to start again from the top of the tower {¬.¬} that one made me turn the console off for a day.
when you put the ninja gaiden games onto the hardest difficulty it gets to the point where killing a boss stops being about skill or ability and turns out to be sheer luck or a one off fluke.
/activatenerdrage
anyways sorry for the wall of text i expect to see a few tldr’s :D
Most frustrating video game moment ever… Getting blue shelled in mario kart, hands down. No other video game event can make me tear out my hair like that. Especially when it happens 3 times in a row.
Other honorable mentions include the hell level in Cave Story.
Ooh, Cave story. Another game that got so frustrating at the end that I’ve never actually beat it.
Too bad it got mentioned too late to make it to the show. Pixel’s Birthday was yesterday.
I didn’t like Sword Calibre. It didn’t have as much polish as claimed, it didn’t control as well in the dashing department.
dude, earthworm jim + toejam & earl, no doubt
