This week we check out some dark, strange, surreal, and hilarious games on Free Indie Rapid Fire. We also have your picks for the best browser-based game of all time.
All Of Our Friends Are Dead: Windows, Platformer, Amon26 – LINK
Glum Buster: Windows, Platformer, CosMind – LINK
Pizza City: Flash, Clown Murdering Pizza Driving Sim?, Pixeljam – LINK

My favorite indie platformer of all time is by far An Untitled Story. If you remember my email suggesting the game for free indie rapidfire, this shouldn’t come as a surprise. An Untitled Story isn’t just my favorite indie platformer of all time, though, nor is it just my favorite indie game. It is one of my favorite games ever.
P.S. first comment :P
My favorite indie platformer would have to the really oldie but goodie Dark Castle. It just always had the atmosphere of humor and fantastic adventure.
The title was updated relatively recently, and the revisions kept so much of the old classic feel paired up awesome updates, it just reminds me of how awesome it is.
Knytt or Noitu Love 2… Noitu Love 2 or Knytt… can I pick both?
Fine. Knytt. It’s atmospheric, cute, and fun. One of my favorite games ever.

By far, my favourite indie platformer is Knytt Stories. There are four different worlds you explore (none which you need to unlock) and you can have a different save for each of them. There are a lot of different abilities for you to use, the controls are tight, and it’s really easy to just play for a few minutes at a time.
The jumper series from mattmakesgames.com. It’s almost as hard as I wanna be the guy!!
You’re the oldest guy? Dude, do you remember my pre-internet gaming comment last week? ‘Course I never watched Dawson’s Creek. I’m not a loser.
Gonna have to play this weeks games before I can make a pick.
Favorite indie platformer? Iji.
where the hell is Playing with fire, I was gonna leave a comme last week but i forgot
Please don’t kill me.. Cave story :(
At this point I’m just wondering why I felt guilty about thinking of Cave Story as well. I dunno if it’s my favorite, but definitely one of the more memorable PC indie platformers.
Yeah! Cave Story! I was just about to say that! The most awesome game EVER!
jesus you cover the exact game games as auntie pixelante without fail. WHY DONT YOU GUYS COLLABORATE ALREADY
Because that would tear a hole in the space/time continuum, and alternate dimensions would come spewing forth, merging with ours, and horrors unseen by man will be unleashed upon this earth.
And that is why we can’t have nice things! Now go to your room and think on what you’ve brought on this planet!
oh yeah my vote goes to knytt
Glum Buster look really interesting because i can’t tell what the heck is happening there by looking at the screenshots. Will try it these days.
Oh, and my favourite indie platformer is definitely Braid. It’s just perfect.
But it is kind of hard to pick a favourite. There are so many great ones, and it seems that every one of them approaches the genre in a different way.
agwakI {seesmic_video:{“url_thumbnail”:{“value”:”http://t.seesmic.com/thumbnail/Z2Em3KoQSW_th1.jpg”}”title”:{“value”:”agwakI ”}”videoUri”:{“value”:”http://www.seesmic.com/video/FVrBSSDZ7D”}}}
I have to say Tekkyuuman because it’s so cute…and you can destroy three enemies in a shower of blood with one throw of your chainball thing and some well-timed hops. The only indie games i’ve had the patience to finish of late.
Wait, no that’s a lie. I finished Meat Boy. I guess i have a thing for really hard platformers where you die a lot. I did play a lot of Spelunky, but couldn’t finish it. Same with I Wanna Be the Guy.
Also, my computer won’t run All Of Our Friends Are Dead or Glum Buster so i feel i have to vote for Pizza City by default. Which makes me sad.
3 letters dude!
Iji! :D
I love how almost all the games people picked for the best indie platformer were made in Game Maker. I think it’s great that such an innovative program is making such a huge mark on the indie scene. Knytt, Knytt stories, Jumper, Iji, Seiklus, and, of course, An Untitled Story (an under-appreciated gem, and one of my favorite games of all time, as you’ll read in my first post)…all made in GM. Awesome.
Also…lol, Cave Story, I knew that was gonna come up a lot :P
It’s a great game, though.
Just to be different, I’m gonna say PSYCHOSOMNIUM. It was short, but it made absolutely no sense, so I loved it.
I kind of want to say Ele-Paper Action, but that’s more of a beat ‘em up. With all the people throwing around Knytt and Knytt stories though, I’m surprised no one has mentioned my favorite…
Within A Deep Forest! Great atmosphere and simple but fairly challenging gameplay make for another winning combination by Nifflas.
… A pox on that glass ball though. Seriously.
Please, this isn’t even a real question. Cave Story. Anyone who votes different is a liar.
Iji is my favorite indie platformer. King is great, but it always crashes before I can reach the end, so I haven’t finished it. Do the Karoshi games count as platformers? If so, Karoshi 2.0 is on my list as well.
I think Cave Story is the best indie platformer out there but my favourite is Mighty Jill Off, frustratingly fun.
Wow, even more GM games! :)
Psychomanium (I agree that it was a great game, it was refreshingly original), Within a Deep Forest, AND Karoshi! Cool!
WTF? How did you get that video comment, I don’t remember publishing that! Don’t tell me you guys get every video we record…..do you?
Anyways, fav. indie platform is would most defiantly be Knytt Stories and The Mighty Jill Off.
Also Iji and Cave story are obvious favorite as well.
And Social Experiment.
and Legend of Princess.
Haha! Nothing stays hidden from us! ;) I happened to stumble upon it and cracked up. It was a really good game suggestion that I felt needed including.
I didn’t know about “The Last Stand” now I’m gonna be a fan.
noooooo!
that means you have all 651 takes of my video comment! ;]
Pizza City is great. It’s like Grand Theft Auto but still fun to play after half an hour.
I honestly don’t care what any of you think but Cave Story is the best indie platformer of all time in my opinion. It’s just so fantastic in every way, and Knytt was just…
I admit it had a great concept and all and really gave you that exploration feel, but I really don’t like games like that at all.
My favorite Indie platformer of all time is Bernie´s A Game with a Kitty 2 – Darkside Adventures. I Think this game has it all, Good gameplay, fun story, beautiful music and graphics!
I would have to say the Jumper series or Seiklus.
Spelunky, Best indie platformer. {seesmic_video:{“url_thumbnail”:{“value”:”http://t.seesmic.com/thumbnail/tan8HrRQBv_th1.jpg”}”title”:{“value”:”Spelunky, Best indie platformer. ”}”videoUri”:{“value”:”http://www.seesmic.com/video/DFmVcbeIah”}}}
My vote for FIOTW goes to “Pizza City”. “AOOFAD” (man, you gotta love those acronyms!) is certainly eerie and atmospheric, even creepy at times, and has spot-on controls. “Glum Buster” is beautiful and intriguing; it really sucks you into its world. But both games lack that distinctive element of objective, becoming somewhat erratic (pointless?) along the way. “Pizza City”, on the other hand, besides being all-out old-school, is straight-forward fun. And its scope is pretty impressive, too!
As for my favorite indie platformer, I’d say that “Spelunky” is probably the one platformer (or exploration platformer) to which I’ve devoted the most time. Oh! And “La-Mulana” (the game inspired by the best exploration platfomer of all time: “The Maze of Galious”!!)!
“Iji” (is it really a platformer?) and “Mighty Jill Off” are great, too.
JUMPAN GAEMS {seesmic_video:{“url_thumbnail”:{“value”:”http://t.seesmic.com/thumbnail/VAxO3paW7S_th1.jpg”}”title”:{“value”:”JUMPAN GAEMS ”}”videoUri”:{“value”:”http://www.seesmic.com/video/MkOYT7HpnJ”}}}
PS – All the games this week were awesome. I ended up voting for Glum Buster. I’ve been playing a lot of games like it lately, where you don’t know exactly what’s going on while you play and getting to discover new stuff. I haven’t finished it yet but I certainly plan on it.
Best indie platformer, are you kidding? Cave Story. Cave Story by a mile. Cave Story by TEN miles. And best of all, it’s free! …At least until it comes out on WiiWare, but you should buy it then too.
The best indie platformer is I wanna be the guy. I cried tears of joy when i beat that game, and besides what other game is there a new way to die on pretty much every screen. No one wants to admit that it’s the best because it’s a fact that you hate the game til you beat it. Although the game does make you really paranoid.
SPOILER ALERT!!! {seesmic_video:{“url_thumbnail”:{“value”:”http://t.seesmic.com/thumbnail/SPWwCf7gSx_th1.jpg”}”title”:{“value”:”SPOILER ALERT!!! ”}”videoUri”:{“value”:”http://www.seesmic.com/video/MMZzry2wBj”}}}

Knytt Stories, I WANNA BE THE GUY… :)
