Yeah, apparently Anthony and Jon hate Tetris because they totally left it off their list of best downloadable puzzle games, and it should have been #1. (Still a sore spot for me, boys.)
Seriously, all of your friends hate tetris? Dude, you need to move and get new friends.
I stand by my reasoning on that one: the downloadable versions of Tetris suck. Tetris Party? Tetris splash? None of them are as good as the original cart versions.
And I say, sir, that you’re reasoning is weak sauce.
You said you were doing the best downloadable puzzle games. Tetris is the first and still best puzzle game of all time, period, and it’s downloadable in a million forms. You seemed to like Tetris Party when you reviewed it. Isn’t it also available for the iPhone in about eleventy-billion flavors? Plus every cel phone ever. Plus every MP3 player ever with a color screen. Plus your USB toaster probably has a version. How’s text mode suit you?
I’ll consent that individual versions of Tetris may not rock the world, but taken as a body of work Tetris is the trump card and should have at least gotten a mention.
It wasn’t a “lifetime achievement award for best concept,” it was “Best Downloadable Puzzle Game.”
The best downloadable versions of Tetris are unlicensed rip-offs, and they’re mostly unpolished. The Tetris license itself is sold out to every company under the sun, who all turn it ridiculous by adding their “personal touches.” There isn’t a consistent Tetris experience anywhere at all.
I liked Tetris Party just fine, but also stated you probably don’t need it if you have Tetris on another platform.
So no, I don’t hate Tetris. But there isn’t a single DOWNLOADABLE version of Tetris that’s worthy of a top 5 ranking.
Tetris? Seriously? That was very, very popular. Back when the original was released, it became the best-selling Game Boy game of all time and still stands in the top 5 of most sold games.

Well, I suppose after having my face be the YouTube preview for 2 weeks in a row it was time to cool down.
I noticed I couldn’t get above Comrade either – I’m glad it wasn’t just a case of me being really bad.
As for the game that I love that doesn’t seem to hit it with others, and I’m just gonna text comment this one this week because Anthony and Jon already knows, it’s Star Control 1. Not 2. Everyone loved 2. But 1 had this full game mode that I loved, but was so notoriously unpopular (even in it’s day) that that it’s exclusion was sited for the reason for SC2′s popularity.
But I love that full game mode.

Dude, I <3 Jade Cocoon. But yeah, not for everyone. You had to be more into breeding monsters than actually playing if you wanted to get a nice, worthwhile experience out of it.

The game I love that everyone else seems to hate, is Clonk. A german indie game, that is kind of a mix between worms/liero and The Settlers. It is absolutely awsome, once you get the controls down, wich is where all my friends just give up… (HINT: Don’t use the mouse!!)

Now I don’t own it, but my friend who did convinced me to like ti before I realized how laughable the acting was. But not just the acting, the controls were fiddly, the premise was shoddy, it was a bad game that still holds a special place in my heart.
