Perhaps the most memorable soundtrack for me was the one for NeverHood. I wouldn’t say best in terms of music I listen to in my spare time, but no doubt the most memorable.

I didn’t want to say Neverhood again for best soundtrack because LAST time I answered a question it was ALSO the Neverhood, but since someone else has already declared it… yes, Neverhood is in fact the best soundtrack. It’s the only one I have a CD for! It’s also the only music I’ve listened to that instructs you to put potatoes, tomatoes, and peas down your pants to combat depression.

Best soundtrack in a game has to be Simcity 3000. The mix of jazz and electronic music makes it a hit in my book, and it’s freely downloadable which is even better :)
Actually, I take it back, Railroad Tycoon 2 has some really excellent blues in it that I can’t get out of my head. Though I’m not sure if you’d listen to it outside of the game for too long, the tracks are fairly short.

Exactly what I was going to say, Peter McConnell is the shit. I’d just like to add that his work can currently be heard in the new Tales of Monkey Island games and his work on Monkey Island 2 with the dynamically changing music was fucking awesome (Woodtick especially, seriously just walk around the town and listen to the subtle changes in the music).
Oh and Full Throttle also had a sweet soundtrack too – that was mostly down to the licensed music but Peter McConnell did some great work on that one as well.
Whoops, in my tiredess last night I conflated Peter McConnell and Michael Land. It’s actually Land who’s doing the score for Tales, not McConnell.

Instead of coming up with some awesome retro game that no one remembers with an awesome retro soundtrack, I’m gonna go with Stubbs the Zombie. The game wasn’t even that good, but it had a bunch of bands doing covers of ’50s and ’60s songs. Ben Kweller, Cake, Death Cab, and The Flaming Lips in a videogame soundtrack? Awesome.

What is with the focus on video game music this week? 2 videos at thatguywiththeglasses.com (which I really only got to know this week) mentioned music in video games. One was kinda lame and the other has a little miss gamer making a playlist for Lara Croft featuring predominantly chick-kick-butt-rock, which is my favorite genre of music.

Anyone who’s played the games know that they have hands-down some of THE BEST video game tunes of all time.
More specifically, my favorite is Embodiment of Scarlet Devil. Just look up songs like “Beloved Tomboyoish Da.ughter”, “Lunar Dial”, and everyone’s favorite: “U.N. Owen was Her”.

My favourite game soundtrack is the The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker soundtrack. That was such amazing music. I’m a sucker for anything with a piccolo in it. I just love how Nintendo was able to compose a soundtrack for every single boss battle, island, creepy hallway, or dungeon in that damn game.
Also, whoever thinks that the Dragon Roost Island tune was the best soundtrack in that game YOU ARE TOTALLY, UTTERLY, AND COMPLETELY WRONG IT WAS THE MOLGERA BOSS BATTLE

Favorite soundtrack is definitely Castlevania SOTN. It could have been Killer Instinct, or Katamari Damacy, but the SOTN one had so much variety that no matter what mood I was in, there was a song for me.

Seesmic broke and they refuse to respond or fix it. The only other service I found that does something similar without requiring everyone to have a login is Riffly. Their free level requires ads. After being burned on my investment in two other video services, I refuse to pay until I know it works, so unfortunately we’ll all have to deal with a few days of ads.
I’m down with ads on the videos. Given how much you guys provide for us, for free, having a relatively unobtrusive ad on video comments is no great hardship.
Actually, we don’t make any money off the video ads, Riffly does. That’s why if it works, I’m just going to upgrade to the paid plan :)
