Zombie Apocalypse – Nihilistic Software, 360/PS3, $10
This 4-player arena shooter attempts to cash in on everyone’s love for the undead, but does it have the staying power to warrant a purchase or is it novelty for novelty’s sake?

Well, i was so worried going up against Joe, and i was honestly just happy to get nominated!
But what a turnout, and this way i wont cry at night!
Thanks for the support, and i love the game Joe!
You were worried about going up against me? I was worried about going up against you. You guys rock! I’m just one dude with a compiler and a perhaps above average grasp of math.

Congratulations dude, this is more impressive than being on the frontpage of slashdot!
I like you Joe =P
Time Fcuk was a pretty sweet game but… ASCIIpOrtal was a bit better!
You do realize, of course, that Bytejacker bylaws about ties require a fight to the death.
One on three, Joe – I hope you’re the Russell Crowe of indie games.

Gasp! No Runman!!
Release an episode featuring Runman on the same day Runman is released?
We’re good, dude, but we’re not that good. Check back next week.

Responce to my youtube video taught me out to get the framerate up, which is cool. It’s darker, but smoother. Still got some fiddling to do.

There is a small chance I may have had a few beers tonight. I hope my video at least approaches coherence, even if it falls a bit short.
Dude? Grim Fandango! Death with a mexican accent? Glotis? The snarky balloon twisting clown who makes you Robert Frost? The bone tatoo artist? Come on, man.
You know I’m not going to say you’re wrong, but in my defence Day of the Tentacle has Bernard, Hoagie, Laverne, Purple Tentacle with his cute little arms, Weird Ed Edison, Fred Edison, the mummy … in my opinion it gives Grim a good run for it’s money.
Either way, lets be thankful Brutal Legend isn’t out yet because I’m sure that game will only confuse matters further.
Sorry but I’m also gonna side with Day of the Tentacle here. I’ve only played the demo of Grim Fandango, but from what I’ve seen it has a very good overall design and neat characters. It does not though, have a bunch of very unique character designs. They’re all basically skeletons/undead, with varying real-world-job equivalents. Big whoop.
DOTT, though, had a lot of different types of characters who basically took their tropes and character traits/flaws and stretched them out to the absurd, making them crazy and memorable.
The parallel time periods was also neat, cause the secondary characters would be reimagined for the times, and thus their characters would be somewhat different. It allowed more interesting characters while keeping them all together so it was coherant.

Yeah, well, okay, DOTT. But you said Psychonauts. All three are great games (counting Grim Fandango) and all three with Tim Schafer’s fingers in them, so I think we can just sum it up and say anything Tim Schafer comes up with is gold.

As obscure over here as it is: The Touhou(TOE- HOE-) series is one of the most successful indie(or Doujin, since it’s from Japan) franchises overseas. It’s in fact a huge phenomenon that has its own inside jokes, lore, fanart done by actual professionals(unlike those kinds who lurk around Gaia and DeviantArt) and even CDs sold by remixers; IOSYS and Cool & Create are some of the more well-known ones.
The Touhou games are mostly Shmups of the Bullet-Hell style… but with one difference: It’s a bizarre fantasy setting based in Japanese mythology, and you have girls such as miko and witches doing the shooting. And spellcards, the game’s “bombs” which play a bigger role than in most shmups. Mention ‘Master Spark’ to a Touhou fan and they’ll automatically go insane.

Hahaha! Longest build-up to a 3 second comment EVER. Nice.
Listen to my plea, Anthony! More people must know about how awesome Touhou is whether it’s all Japan-only or not. It’s a 12+ game series made at most by one guy. And not only does he do it all, he does a lot of it well(with actual art being the franchises’ Achilles’ heel- but since there’s LOTS of fan-made art that overshadows his stuff, that’s okay).
His talent as a music composer is a great example; I am not afraid to say that his works not just rival that of guys like Uematsu(Final Fantasy), Mitsuda(Chrono series, Xeno series), David Wise(games by Rare) and Tim Follin(Silver Surfer – the music was truly the best part of the whole abysmal game), but at times completely DOMINATES THEM! That’s why I kind of felt disappointed that my feedback for best game music wasn’t included.
Oh! And I forgot to mention… you know a game’s OST is great when you have lots of Remixes. Touhou is probably the biggest thing when it comes to this. Artists have become internet superstars(IOSYS’ Marisa Stole The Precious Thing is the biggest arguably) because of their awesome remixes.
Signing out,
Tye The Czar
P.S. Cirno is the strongest!
Very cool game.

I’m sooo super swamped this week, but I wanted to swing by and say that Final Fantasy 9 has the best character designs. Each one has a unique look and style, not to mention their development over the game. And remember the one-word values of each that show up on the menu?

Yo, guys.
Apparently the goofs at Google Chrome tagged bytejacker.com as possibly containing malware.
Like, wtf.
