Okay, so we’ve all checked out the “best of 2009 lists.” We downloaded Canabalt and Galcon. And, like, that’s cool and all, but there have already been a ton of great iPhone titles released in 2010 – we’re listing off a few of our favorites, so the inevitable march of progress doesn’t leave you behind.
After all, you don’t want to be kicked out of the cool kids club.

Feedback: Sick Bed Games
Man, there’s nothing worse than being stuck at home sick – but having a ‘comfort routine’ makes it a little more bearable. Favorite sick bed foods, favorite movies, and, of course, a good sick bed game can make the time go by much faster. Here are the games you like to keep you company when you’re all quarantined up.

Dude, if anyone here knew a place that you could get paid to play videogames and do video blogs, they’d be doing it, man. You’re gonna have to get a … woooooo… real job.
a real job? they still make those?
as far as my evidence shows, no… =(

World of goo.
I mean, why not?

A reply to Jonathan’s message – http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/iPhone/World+of+Goo+(iPhone)/news.asp?c=16148
Ok I played One Button Bob week ago or so and it was nice but not more than that, Duck and Hover turned out to be boooring, now I am giving a chance to depict1…
I would love to play Spelunky on my droid.
depict1 is simply a way ahead of its competitors this week, very solid entry!
Game that needs to be mobile? Chu Chu Rocket. Finger down on a square, and swipe to set an arrow in that direction. IT’S THAT EASY
Yo, Latest ep’s Not up on youtube, struggling to watch on Android :(
Sorry about that Laurence. You can see it on Rev3′s YouTube in the meantime.
How many places do you upload each episode? Good grief, it’s lucky they go up at all.
If YouTube weren’t all powerful I’d say drop them.
I was looking forward to a bit of youtube love because i’ve been away from home for most of the day. Which was why i was wanting to watch on my HTC hero.
A bit of a long winded info here. Using download helper ( a firefox plugin i mentioned a couple of weeks back ) i ran a varied bunch of downloaded flv’s through a media analyser. the bog standard non-hd youtube flv’s are “sorensen h.263″ encoded. Whereas ones from places like vimeo and rev 3, where the clips look crisper smoother & more ‘HD’ (-ish), for the most part are encoded using vp6. hell in some cases even more “hi def” embedded vids are out & out MP4 these days.
long story short,. sites using h.263 embedded vids (not just youtube) seem to play ball with the current crop of mobile devices that are out on the market at the moment. Whereas – for reasons i can’t explain – vp6 embedded vids are pretty much unplayable. If you do ditch youtube, try & find a site that’s still h.263 friendly for the mobile viewers :)
BTW Laurence, download helper is pretty much the best thing ever made! You have made my job every week soooo much easier with that plugin.
Wauw….all the games are great this week. But the one I liked the most must be Duck and Hover since it kept adding now ideas to the mix even at the last levels so it never got boring ^_^ the difficulty was also pretty balanced as well.
None of the entries were very stellar this time. That said, my vote goes to depict1 as the lesser of the 3 evils.
depict1 is da best.
Looking forward to depict1.
And if I like a game, i probably won’t want it on an iPhone. My long ass nails always cause me problems on those screens.

One Button Bob… love it <3
On a side note I've got some pretty awesome stuff lined up that will see the light of day in roughly 2 months ;)

BOUGHT!
why is everyone automatically thinking iPhone? The question was “what game would you like to see a portable version of?” There are plenty of portable systems out there…
Of course, I could just be jealous that I don’t own an iPhone yet……

This is open to everyone. What balloon should this ol’ ballong guy make for Anthony’s post-recovery get well?
I bet Anthony would love a grappling hook balloon.
@ tom. In that case, how about the dude from bionic commando (forget his name)? :p
@ joe how about the characters from this week’s free indies? The white rectangle from duck & hover should be easy enough. Or how about the capped kid protagonist from earthbound :p
Also joe I’ve got something you could well be interested in seeing. However elder relatives are over at my humble abode, trying to film a comment with them around is going to be a logistical headache =\
@ Laurence that’s a great idea! If Joe won’t make a balloon of that guy, maybe I could just draw a picture. ;)
@ Joe
Also, my free indy pick.

Holy cow! That’s amazing Joe! I totally agree about knuckles. When I was but a wee lad I liked knuckles better than Sonic. Very very very well done Joe. Thanks for posting those links Jon! I hope Joe makes more balloon things!
This one is @Joe about my possible willingness to part with my old DS.

Yeah, that’s pretty much what I was expecting was someone’s old G1 after an upgrade. If you wanted to use this as an opportunity to upgrade, more power to ya, but there’s got to be someone within the sound of my voice with one just lying around that they aren’t using any more.
Or maybe not. Like I said, there’s always Craigslist. It’s not just for lewd rendezvous.
And @Laurence, yup, that’s also pretty much the set up I was planning, tho I was thinking a different mod cartridge. My brother uses the cycloDS and I like the cut of its giblets.
This one goes out to Joe: There is a portable game machine that will run anything… Well, anything on Linux or that someone has written an emulator for:
http://www.gp2xstore.com/gp2x-wiz-handheld-linux-game-console.html
The GP2X Wiz. It is a Linux based handheld game machine with a touch screen. Designed to run the Mame emulators, you can run any game from any system where someone has gone to the trouble of writing an emulator for it.
@ joe Re craigslist, not had much experience of it, over this side of the atlantic there is a site called gumtree, anyways wierd al yankovic agrees with you:P
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0fn2xlNYC8
Couple of things for you Coding Cat. (1) ASCIIpOrtal has already been ported to the GP32… I think. Maybe not. I know it’s on the Dingoo. (2) I’m holding out for a Open Pandora. (http://youtu.be/i9rMCM1tg2w ) (3) Given the choice bettween a $150 GP32 or paying about the same for a hacked DS, I’ll choose the DS. Just a little more powerful.
That said, I wouldn’t say no if some philanthropist decided to get me my own GP32 and would happily develop for it if I had one.
Apologies for the lateness… any chance it will still make the show? =/

DEAL!
The GP wiz thing was BUILT for emulation.
ummm… i’ve been getting this message whenever i want to watch this episode… I even tried to watch it on revision3 but with the same result…

one button bob was really good, but a few parts were frustrating, and not because they were difficult, but because they were unreasonable, for example the last few bats on the flying platform screen before the boss, since the platform was so near the right edge of the screen when they came in, i didnt have time to react to them, i had to memorize where they would come out. so it was a really great game besides a few things which really annoyed me.
duck and hover was fun and simple, a pretty solid game overall.
depict1 however, is my pick, because it was genius. the creator really worked well with the deception theme, and what they did with the spikes was absolutely brilliant. it was also the most aesthetically pleasing of the three.
“Dont go back and look at episode eleven, we haven’t really figured out what we were doing until the last 3 weeks”. So very true… lol
Depict1 was fun but when I tried to play it on my computer it lagged for the last 3 levels so I kinda skipped out on those levels.
Duck and hover was fun, but half the game I was very mad at my W key because it’s sticky so I hovered when I just wanted to jump.
One Button Bob was a cool game, the soundtrack was good, and the beginning part, when it acted like it was a commodore 64 game made me happy. But the boss battle at the end pissed me off because I didn’t understand why I kept running into the boss when I wasnt doing anything.
In the end my vote goes to Depict1 because I liked how you had to do the opposite of what the person said.
Excuse any spelling errors, I typed this very quickly.
This was supposed to be a request to @Brian Scheel above.
I get that message from time to time, sometimes for days at a time. had to watch a few episodes on YouTube because of it. (shudder)
Since we’re on the subject of one switch games, RetroRemakes.com has changed their frontpage until April to raise awareness of special effect, a group trying to make computers and video games more accessable to those with disabilities. So go hit retroremakes.com for more information and follow the link and nodate a dollar or two of you can.
Nick, you could probably do a blog post about this. It’s a really good cause.

Two words for you guys.
X-Wing.
Well, I guess that is a word and a letter…
But handhelds are in desparet need of a decent space simulator. And none of that StarFox crap. I want full 3 axis control. Rockets. Lasers. Everything.
A game that SO needs to be be released on mobile? Definitely the PS3 role-play-killer-app Demon’s Souls.
If you’re sitting in the bus or subway and right behind you someone goes like “Fuck, shit, bollocks, FUUUUUCK…”, you know exactly: This dude must be playing “Demon’s Souls Mobile”.
DEMON’S SOULS – For more people swearing in public transport!
Did you ever play Stellar Assault for the Sega x32? It was awesome. Everything you loved about X-Wing in a rapid fire aracde like pace, and an awesome, and totally unique, 2 player mode. Man, I love that game.
Do I want to see it portable? Oh you bet.

Here’s the blog post I referenced in the video: http://www.nerve.com/CS/blogs/61fps/archive/2008/09/05/ports-that-need-to-be-made-itouchrez.aspx
Na, I wasn’t expecting to talk you out of one of yours. I know how selfish you are.
Heh.
You beat the spike bridge area with one spike? Friggin’ epic! Unnecessarily challenging, but dang.
omg i got a reply from joe larson himself!!! :D
BTW after a few days trying i finally got to see this episode!!! thnx anyway!! :D
Whatever. Fuck it. Viddler won’t let me log on, so…
I WOULD SO LOVE TO SEE BIOSHOCK ON SOME SORT OF PORTABLE VIDEO GAME SYSTEM.
Yeah… That’s basically it. ;)
What? Like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeyZWJeRp2o
The only game I can hope and wish for on a mobile platform would be Cave Story. It’s truly one of the most well crafted games I’ve ever played and I’m just looking for another reason to play through it again.
Now if i were to pick a game that should go on my Iphone it would have to be one of those old classic pokemon games. Red, blue, yellow, gold, silver, crystal. Ruby sapphire and emereld, ehhh maybe. Diamond, pearl and platinum, ehh not likely.
I notice on the Iphone game app list they have Mega Man 2 which is .99 dollars. They had Mega Man 3 available for my old cell phone which was the Sidekick 3. I would like to see Mega Man 4 on the IPhone, it has one of my favorite Robot Masters in the game that being PHARAOH MAN.
Speaking of everyone getting new haircuts (well, i dunno if joe’s bad hair day from last week or whenever counts)….

I think depict1 would’ve been more fun if they switched things around and kept you on your feet. The fact that the laws of the game stayed the same after you figured them out got boring after a while.
“laws of the game stayed the same”. I should be a rapper.
You and Laurence always seem to make it in under the wire on Monday evenings. Nice job getting your comment in. Must suck not being able to play mobile games because of your nails, I have the same issu. . . . . egh I ugh mean . . . . I love mobile games.
BTW You should make an avatar on Gravatar.com since you comment so often. Isn’t it time you become one of the cool kids?
Headphonic, I think you should Make your next gaming purchase a nintendo DS, Touchscreens on Iphones are capacitive, meaning that they rely on presses from actual human skin.
however the DS on the other hand has a resistive touchscreen, which means it can register presses from other physiical objects. With nails like yours imagine the Pwnage you could achieve on multiplayer metroid prime hunters for example… :P ;)
Yeah the DS is alright by me, but I still prefer to not use the touchscreen when I can. It’s just annoying to have to keep transferring between the buttons and the stylus, and I lose that stupid thing A LOT.

Welcome Raylin!
It’s always great to see a fresh new face around here. Thanks for your comment. Be sure to get one in by Monday next week so I can get you into the show.
As for Zelda, I don’t believe there’s an iPhone version unless you have an emulator. Of course that would be pretty bad ass.
LOL. Thanks, Jon. (I would have included your name in my comment, but… I forgot it.)
*runs away*
But, I’m no newbie to Bytejacker. I’ve trolled this site since Episode 30-ish? I don’t know.
And, what happened!?
Did you guys get bought out?
Or did you not have the money for your own servers anymore?
Thanks for sticking with us for so long! The show is ours as it always has been, we were just lucky enough to have had Revision3 add us to their lineup. Having sponsorship has been really helpful with a lot of the expenses that it takes to make the show every week. If anything it’s helped us get access to some content we previously were unable to get, therefore making things that much more awesome. Commercials started on Episode 55, but our content has always remained the same as it always will. We look forward to having the show continue to grow, but more importantly for more people to gain more interest in the fantastic indie games being made that deserve more attention. Anyway, thanks for staying devoted for so long. I’m sure you’ll dig the new stuff we have coming this Thursday. We look forward to hearing your thoughts for next weeks show.
Stay classy dude,
Camera Guy
Awwww, don’t give in to the Camera Guy fad!
P.S. Anyone else as obsessed with the olympics as I am? I’ve watched literally every event on TV. 0_o
@Headphonic – Are the Olympics going on?
I loved the last level of depict1
The great platforming action is great
Joe: I guess that would be a no for you, then?
I can’t stop watching them though. I’ve watched every event that’s been on TV. I have a favorite athlete in every single sport.
This can’t be healthy.
Did you really just make a comment on an episode that’s a month old? A video comment no less? I mean nothing against that I guess. It’s just not going to appear on the show or anything. Just saying. And the votes are already tallied.
Glad you’re back, tho. Catch up with this week, I think you’ll be out of the loop for the feedback question, tho.
