This week we’re checking out IGF Finalist Monaco and finding out which games you think are in desperate need of a mobile version.
There’s absolutely no Robot Unicorn Attack in this episode.
RADAR: Monaco First Look

Feedback: Games That Should Go Mobile
A great mobile game just makes the day better – whether you’ve got a long commute, stuck in line somewhere, or just looking to get out of the house without any of that pesky “human interaction” getting in the way. But sometimes, franchises that should be portable are sadly overlooked – so we asked you to let us know what games you’d like to see go mobile.
Next week’s Feedback question: What game doesn’t haver co-op that should? Weigh in with a video or audio comment on www.Bytejacker.com, a video response on YouTube, or a message on our hotline: (530) 675-GAME

Jesus Jobbies and Joseph guys!!
Robot unicorn attack is more camp than a row of pink tents at a Barbara Streisand festival, as are erasure…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSMeUPFjQHc
Mind you I think I smell a swing time Mark 2… Maybe? =/ :P
I got an even better idea, webcam yourself watching that video you linked there. I had to stop because I wanted genuine reactions when i do mine. Holy smokes that thing was… OMGful.
Unfortunately Joe, because growing up on this side of the atlantic, I was in my very early teens when that song and video first came out. so I saw it quite a few times on various televisual outlets at the time so viewing this vid on a first time basis for me is something of a no no. I had not seen or heard that song this millenium, till it turns up on a web show starring a couple of videogame obsessed new yorkers and I immediately thought WTF?!?! :P
could erasure be the new rickroll?
Also I do respect erasure, their synth player/instrumentalist is vince clarke, one of the founder members of The Awesome Depeche Mode!! :D
Click to play this video.
So get someone else to watch it who hasn’t seen it and record their reaction. It’ll be like the anti-”2 girls 1 cup”.
This video reminds me of this quote by Graham Watanabe: “Try to imagine Pegasus mating with a unicorn and the creature that they birth. I somehow tame it and ride it into the sky in the clouds and sunshine and rainbows. That’s what it feels like.”
Well, he didn’t win. But I was totally rooting for him.
Eh, messed up the recording, but that video. WOW. Did he say “Open your eyes. I see your eyes are open”? Tautology master there. And who’s fantasy is this, his or hers? I mean white guy getting the Asian chick, so it could go either way on that. Back flips (his dream) her a massive bouquet (her dream). Flying (his dream) as he combs her hair (hers). Big monster shows up (his) and… yeah, this is his from that point on.
It was almost painful to watch. Less painful than one of Princes videos tho.
I have my doubts over if it was a male dream, Andy bell (the singer) is openly gay… =/
That video made me think of a quote by olympian Graham Watanabe: “Try to imagine Pegasus mating with a unicorn and the creature that they birth. I somehow tame it and ride it into the sky in the clouds and sunshine and rainbows. That’s what it feels like.”
After the announcers read that quote, I knew I wanted him to win (probably didn’t though). Absolutely EPIC quote.
@Laurence – It doesn’t matter if the singer of the song is gay, or even the writer whoever that is. But whoever directed that video set up a male fantasy vs a female fantasy that are both coexisting in the same space and what happens when those two forces synergize. And the result is that there are periods of good and periods of conflict and when that conflict is overcome the goods become great, smiles all around….
Am I thinking too hard about this?
I think you are joe. looking at this video echoes my thoughts on playing “every day the same dream”
http://www.bytejacker.com/episodes/069/comment-page-1#comment-5980
BTW Joe how much time do you spend around girls/women in general? because they are the ones that are usually capable and guilty of overanalysis to the “N”th degree :P
Long story short, when I first saw that video I thought – “a bit of electronic music that’s cheesier than an old man’s nether-regions, with a video to match” =/ does this make me too simple I wonder?
GAH!! Look what you started :P
I hope Hydorah will have co-op multiplayer. I play the demo all the time, it’s awesome.
Sad thing is, even if it had multiplayer, nobody would probably want to play it with me because it is HARD.
I’m commenting before I’ve even seen this episode!
Pfff. Pathetic free indie rapid fire attempt. See, YELLOW snow would’ve been MUCH easier to read.
Yes, I am kidding. Anyways, when I “woke up” after the first night in Level Up and saw that all the skills had been reset, I just wanted to vomit. I couldn’t bring myself to do it again, so it’s going to be an annoying one for me this week.
i managed to complete in approx “2 days” worth of play. What you have to do for the night boss battle isn’t fight him, but avoid and survive him. then “interact” with the giant computer screen to the far left of the map.
oh, and collect as many black gems as you can during the night fight.

I’m actually going to say my free Indie pick! Woohoo!
and Plants Vs. Zombies on the iPhone FTW!!
Jon, headphonic, I’m gonna post a spoiler heavy video comment about “level up” in the morning (UK time). At the moment though, need sleep
Click to play this video.
I have yet to play the free indie games though. Probably will end up getting them in on Sunday. Yeah….I’ll try not to make it a last minute Monday thing as I have for the past 2 weeks. :| Sorry for being a tool, Jon!
Filmed this morning, didn’t have a chance to upload it till now, sorry.
don’t watch if you want to continue playing through “level up”

Not had time to film another comment here, plus I don’t know anyone who has not seen that erasure vid. so don’t have much else to say that I haven’t said in that comment.
All I had to do was play “where we remain”. Which was kinda pleasant, but I found it pretty dull. I felt like link in an old zelda game without a weapon. and sometimes i would just stumble across the cave with the woman by accident with no struggle in the cave. And in the end I thought… “make your own way out of that cave next time” And i thought it was a bit too artsy and “hidden meaning” esque much like “every day the same dream”
In the end, pick remains with “guardian rock”.
Has anyone tried level up yet? WHAT IS WITH THAT STUPID BLACK NINJA WITH THE FLAMING SWORD!!!!! how do i kill it?
And a game that should be multiplayer is One of the good legend of zelda games like ocarina of time or twlight princess. A four sword type of multiplayer would really sky rocket it’s sales.
I would SO play a Zelda game like that. You really can never have too many zelda games. I wonder when the next one is…
Not quite what you’re talking about, but the suggestions of a multiplayer Zelda reminded me of this PC Halo mod from a couple years back:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8eZIwb_PpF8
This was pre-Intel Macs (for me, at least) – so I never got to mess around with it. But it looked amazing.
What i mean is maybe like a co-op of Ocarina of time. I mean you need two or more people to play the four swords adventure on the GBA version of link to the past. You could also have like duels or even a capture the flag while riding the horses. Use the bow and arrow to knock the opponent of their horse and steal their flag. Or even use the Longshot to steal the flag. Something like that in a future Zelda is something i would be addicted to and playing 24/7
For some reason, watching the video Anthony linked, It reminded me of Banjo Toowie, the first person stages.
But I guess that game did have multiplayer, so.. there ya go.
This is me in “I’m sleep deprived, I still have work to do, and I just want to watch Olympics” mode. Baby-puncher games are probably the worst thing to provide me with at the moment.
Click to play this video.
Speaking of Chip’s Challenge, I haven’t played that game in years. Time to go download it.
I’m in Olympics mode too. Just love watching them. Sadly, I’ve been kind of unproductive because of that.
I am SO going to the next winter games in 4 years. I’m just about the only person who likes them more than the summer games. I’ll go to the speed-skating event and hold up a big J R Celski poster. Unless Apolo is still competing.
True that. Oh man. I finally got to see some curling action today! Here in college we only get USA or MSNBC on the TV in the lower dining hall. Weird, but awesome sport. I need to start watching more. I missed Bode Miller today! *shame* I won’t miss more.
Oh yeah, J R Celski totally rocks! Except the last event he got disqualified. Lame….
I’m watching the whole thing in chronological order, and I only just got up to where Shaun White wins the gold. :P But, of course, I watch all mens’ speedskating live. I swear, I should just get posters of them all for my room. DAMN THOSE KOREANS FOR BEING SO GOOD! D:

3:45 Anthony says is going on forever. But 7 minutes is about par for one of my video comments.

I find it entirely agreeable, Andy.
I’m sorry that I couldn’t leave a video at the moment. I’ve yet to reinstall the drivers that were used for the laptop camera.
Therefore, I’d love to see the beloved Ys(pronounced EEs) have a jump-in/out multiplayer-enabled game. Never before have I realized just how fun it is bumping into enemies(or “goons” as they’re always called) to death while listening to that once-newfangled CD music done by Streets Of Rage/Revenge of Shinobi/Actraiser composer Yuzo Koshiro. I highly reccomend, no, DEMAND that people go to the Wii Virtual Console and download the original Ys Book I & II for Turbografx16.
Anyhow, back on topic; I think a multiplayer Ys would do best if it were on a portable like PSP or DS and had multiplayer functionality similar to Dragon Quest IX. Having 4 or more people bumping up goons would be wonderfully chaotic, especially if Ys developer Falcom maybe put in a lot more depth and add difficulty that could rival the toughest of Diablo II’s difficulty modes.
Oh, and of course it would feature both online and local play.
P.S. Please mention my suggestion in your next video!
My brief vision for a multiplayer Zelda game, and also another concept for Zelda games (the off topic part)

Link, Zelda, and two non-descript toads for a 4 player game. New Super Zelda Wii! Yeah, baby.
Dude, you’re hair… and that still they chose for the vid, dude.
Here’s your twist – Gannon IS link, the last link. He goes back in time, gets corrupted, and becomes the evil monster. Hah!
Godesses loves you as They loved Impa.
I hated Crystal Chronicles. It was insanely repetitive and annoying. But maybe that’s because I didn’t really have anyone to do the co-op with…
I thought you guys only did new games. Level up and Guardian Rock came out a bit ago. Not criticizing just pointing out/asking.
Well if they didn’t get to them yet, why not? :\ Especially considering that Level Up was rated highly on Kongregate.

It’s fun if you ARE the lewd little kid insulting people’s moms. >:) No really though, I feel your pain. Especially in first-person shooters. I suck ass at those.

I this video:
o How you can beat level up: Talk to the boy when you start the second day over and over again, stick with it.
o Help me pick the free indie this week because I can’t decide.
I said I’d lay it down quick, but I ended up rambling kind of. So here’s my defense of my free indy pick Joe.
Click to play this video.
Oh yeah, and there was a point when I had so many red gems I could just start my day by buying all my hearts from the boy. Definitely worth sticking with.
Considering I don’t do much multiplayer gaming, It would be weird to hear those insults come from a girl though :P , considering girl gamers are a bit more of a rarity, are they a bit more dignified? =/
@Joe, on the first comment. I actutally got that ending first. The main reason being is when I started I stepped on the flower, and it poofed, so because of “Kirbys Dream Land 3″ for the snes, I thought that was a bad thing. So I went through it not stepping on any, but then she was all pissed so I took the raft, but I talked to her again and got the normal ending.
Shoulda left the damn island

Shoot, I think the video froze while recording me. Damn Erasure video! You froze my recording too!
Yeah, the whole recording the watching of the video may not have been the best idea I ever had for several reasons.
i think eufloria should have a multiplayer mode. that would be awesome
level up is nice cause of the graphics and advanced gameplay
Does Guardian Rock fail for anyone else using Win 7/Firefox 3.6/Flash 10.0.45.2? I can hear the sound, but the flash rectangle within the game’s page shows an incomplete title screen, or just plain gray.
It does run in IE on the same box, although the frame rate isn’t that great.
can’t get it to run on my main PC (win XP) using Either Firefox or chrome, but works fine on my Netbook (also XP + chrome)

When I saw that comment, I just started thinking of like 30 different players on ants on the guy. That was a game that could have done alot with multilayer too, Nice suggestion.

Awesome week
How do you get that little picture on the top right of the comment. Its been taunting me…
gravatar.com man :)
Speaking of which I think I’m the only one “gravatared” with an image of myself =/ :P
Does Anthonys count?
Eh, mine’s a pixel self-portrait. Used to be a regular photo, but when Jon started including them in the show it felt redundant and vain. And Anthony’s is Peter Parker from the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon. It looks nothing like him!!! Not in the slightest!
sweet job with that portrait sanskrit man, I stand corrected. :) always wondered where that was from, I catually thought it would have been from an old NES game, I was really racking my brains at one point :P chears for clearing that up :)

Yay for Xmas tree in February :)
@Danny – You are a dangerous man to say anything around.
ONLINE multi-player. I hate ONLINE multi-player.
And the more I think about it, what I really hate is playing against total strangers, and I hate games that require multi-player since it perpetuates playing with someone you don’t know online when you want to play it on some random Thursday at 1 in the morning because you can’t sleep but all your normal playing partners don’t have the same problem. I think more multi-player only games need a single player mode. Imagine Team Fortress (as brilliant as it is) where you play a series of single player missions as each of the characters, utilizing their specific skills to surpass specifically crafted puzzles. Now that would be awesome.

my fast computer is in for repairs so no web cam comments :(
love guardian rock.
feedback:
would be cool to have a portal multiplayer where you drop stuff on each other
