Feedback: Best Original Playstation Games
It made 3D gaming mainstream and gave us some of the most enduring franchises of all time – here are your favorite games for the original Playstation.
Next week’s Feedback question: Who’s the most underrated video game hero of all time? Weigh in with a video or audio comment on www.Bytejacker.com, a video response on YouTube, or a message on our hotline: (530) 675-GAME
Guys, it’s a fact, men are less likely than women to buckle up. In 2008, 66 percent of male drivers and 74 percent of male passengers 18 to 34 killed in passenger vehicles were NOT wearing their seat belts. Don’t become a statistic…wear a freaking seatbelt.
ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT! Two thirds of people who die in accidents at night are not buckled up. You may be a safe driver but you do not know who is out there….it’s not cool to not wear it.
The police will be out in force over Memorial weekend. Hundreds of State and local law enforcement and highway safety officials across the Nation will participate in Click It or Ticket 2010 from May 24 to June 6. They will be looking for you, day and night, and making sure that everyone is buckled up.

Yes! I’d been so looking forward to Puzzle Bots ever since I found out my boy John Green was doing the art. Haven’t playing the free indies yet, but Blackfoot kind of looks like The Lion King for Game Gear. That very last second of the show made me guffaw. Well played, Carboni.
Thanks, Sanskrit!
Great episode. Though I have to wonder how Erin’s fictional NYC experience measures to her actual NYC experience…
Wow, I loved the end, it’s awesome ;)!
isn’t megaman legends and megaman 64 the same game? man who the heck said that, i would of totally went with megaman X4 or X5, or even 7.
Rocket knight!!! holy shit was that game a fucking brain buster back for the Sega. The one boss is literally impossible!!!!!
And cameron, awwwwww damn, they didn’t put chrono cross on there. But sheesh they put mine on there.
This weeks feedback question is a brain buster. I might have to sit this one out. Unless i see what other people say first. I might go with Sora from kingdom hearts. He is like a Squall/cloud wannabe.
Megaman 64/legends is way under-rated. It’s kinda quirky in it’s controls and hard to play, yes, but so are FPS shooters with dual sticks the first time. Once you get past that it’s actually a pretty cool game with an excellent story and the Tron Bonne sequel was pretty good.
And the story was a bit weird. Had less to do with previous Megaman games. Again, just something you have to get over.
Wait, wait, are you sure you sure you guys didn’t do blackfoot already?!?!?
I could’ve sworn I’ve seen that in here before. You guys got my head scratching on that one.
Oh, feedback, I totally got this.
The most underrated character of all time has to be in the underrated game of all time:
Mike from Star Tropics 1 and 2.
I’ll harp more on that later, during the day.
And go go go ‘Give up Robot’! I loved that game! Level 50, I will beat you! I hope it’s the last.
Advice to Joe, turn off the sounds. Or just mute it. Helps to concentrate.
FOUR!!!!
Please, please, please: leave some audio or video about Mike! StarTropics is one of my favorite games ever! Don’t tell the street cred police, but I loved StarTropics 1 and 2 WAY more than Zelda 1 and 2.
OK, thansk to the new comments system and wordpress update whatever i don’t have my avatar any longer here :( and i have been trying to get it back for like 3 weeks…
anyway: WOW! THIS EPISODE WAS EPIC! And it seems I forgot to vote for Munekyun last week, it is my fault it got 0 % …..

I’ve been trying to figure that one out myself! Tricky!

Awesome. Way to beat me to the video comment this week, if only by a hair.

I swear I told the woman “just a trim”.
Other underrated characters is any of the supporting cast from the Classic Megaman series. Roll. Edie. Auto. Beat.

I recommend abandonia.
If you ever see “guesst” there, that was me.
most underrated video game hero of all time?
it’s @! (and his adorable sidekick d, of course…)
nethack ftw!!!
Finally, a text comment that could be no other way. I applaud you, sir.
god i love this show. :D
Man, she’s gorgeous, makes video games, AND is a redhead. I think I’m in love, hahaha.
Stupid Google Chrome screwing up… Is there no way to delete comments on this thing?
i was quite dissapointed with Rocket Knight right off the begining of the trailer when i saw it on Steam.
My thougths while i was watching the trailer were: “10 stages” thats quite short compared to Sparkster for the genesis… “Thrilling Rocket Action” Doesnt seems so thrilling. “Blast Possuming” well, duh, its Sparkster, its like advertising Sonic 4 saying that u can spin…. wait thats it? thats the whole trailer? He doesnt even looks as cute or cool as the first games :( the boss fights look cool, but comparing this game with the Original Sparkster (which would be Rocket Knight advetures 2…. idk the games were confusing since the second game was named Sparkster instead of Rocket Knight Adventures 2…. and this one is just Rocket Knight instead of Rocket Knight Adventures 3 or Sparkster 2 or w/e) that one had really epic boss fights too, i mean, u fight a robot in a giant truck/train?
Myunekun, 0%? wow thats…. wow, i knew it was bad but…. dam, who made that game must be really sad now.
Gonna play some indie rapid fire now to vote :D
And i extra respect u guys now cus of the seatbelt advertising, nice to see im not the only one still uses them :( is it that hard?
On the contrary, i think getting a 0% would make the maker of Myunekun proud as all get out. (S)He’s now the indiest of the indies.
Your comment about rocket knight had me thinking they should re-write the game to be nothing but boss fights. Or like short level segements, multiple mini bosses, one giant boss at the end. Like make the whole game a boss rush. How epic would that be?
I think Blackfoot may have been on the radar some episode. That may be it.
I think you guys may be thinking of “Paws” a short while back. It was a similar looking game in terms of you playing as an animal in the forest.
Outro win
Dear Bytejacker,
Why must you break my eyeballs by using very dark gray text on very darker grey backrounds?
If you’re talking about these text comments, I don’t think it’s that bad. the text is a 71% grey and the background is 94%. Yes, they’re both darker than medium, but comparatively I think the legibility is quite noticeable. And yes, I did check the page source for the hex codes to come up with those precise values. Color me lame.
Besides, darker colors means your screen uses less energy to display them. That means Bytejacker’s comments are more eco-friendly than the average web discussion.
Sanskrit, I appreciate your witty comments very much :)

I just watched the video comments (I hadn’t before I posted my comment) so:
Joe Larson had already mentioned about how Erin did the Free Indy Rapid Fire in a funny way. Sorry Joe.
Russelloni buddy, you video was really funny, so you may have been joking but… you got the terms “Over-rated” and “Under-rated” confused.
Just to clarify in case anyone else is unclear on this.
Over-rated means that a character is generally thought highly of by many people when actually they kind of suck.
Under-rated is the opposite, it means that a character is generally over-looked or considered lame when in actuality they rock.
Dammit i knew i was getting them mixed up. Joe larson said rush and roll from the megaman series. I was thinking that they were crappy hero additions to the game.
The other guy said luigi so i was thinking the same thing. Oh he is mario’s shadow. that isn’t a cool thing to say i guess.
Well either way, sora is fucking awesome whether or not he carries his keyblade like cloud carries his buster sword. He rocks!!!

You might be on to something there. Also, like Super Mario 2, tho that was an even worse case. That was a case where they took an existing game and modified it.
I think this happens quite a bit in the video game world. There’s a realization that a new game will sell X units, but marry it with an existing game and it’ll sell many times that. YOu can’t blame them, tho it does leave the audience feeling a bit ripped off.

My Feedback Response. I genuinely think of the video game heroes I know of (in my limited knowledge) this one if the most underrated.

Everyone was in bed so I was using my quiet voice which is not unlike Kermit the Frog’s.
Free indie feedback.
Yo Joe!
If you check the credits on the Adult Swim games, by and large they are by developers we’d still classify as “indie,” though I know some people have a problem with that considering they’re being paid by a division of Time Warner for these games. Radioactive Teddy Bear Zombies is by Scott Stoddard (aka Spiritonin), the dude who gave us previous FIRF contenders Guardians of Altarris and Death Vegas, but more recently and more importantly gave us Robot Unicorn Attack. I think the biggest studio in the Adult Swim games rolodex is This Is Pop, and even that is just a small team of mentally unhinged developers in New York City.
Even as I was making the comment I was thinking “I should check the credits.”
I really don’t want to try to define “indie”. Quite frankly I don’t think that the “indie spirit” and money making are mutually exclusive, tho some folks seem to think that the moment an “indie” takes a paycheck they’re indie cred evaporates. I don’t quite agree with that idea.

I don’t blame you guys for having a hard time watching my video. That constant buzzing. Ouch.
Spoilers ahoy – Eternally Us reveal discussed.
And thanks Laurence and Sankrit for your replies.
So, we finally get a game from YoYo Game’s Competition05… But “Blackfoot”?? O_o It’s not a bad game, mind you, but there are some others that deserve to be mentioned, like “Attack of the Ooze”, “Sector Z”, “Ninja Rush” or “Milk Money” (some personal favorites of mine).
And, of course, the 3 winners of the Compo: “Nimbus Sky Princess” (a very nice side-scrolling shooter), “Ninjammin Beat-jitsu” (a really cool mix of platform and rhythm game), and “They Need To Be Fed”, from 2D Cube (the guy who made “Karoshi” and “You Made It”, both of which I think have been featured in Bytejacker).
Just try some of them; they’re really worth 5 minutes of your time. Here’s the page with the results, although you could just search for games with the tag “competition05″ and pick your favorites: http://glog.yoyogames.com/?p=871
Don’t be glum, Jaymz! Get thee to the Game Submission Form! It’s the best way to be sure we’re covering the stuff you want to see!
I’ve played a few of those already, and don’t be surprised to see them in future episodes.
Hey, Anthony! I didn’t mean to be glum, just informative :)
For your information, I’ve sent some of those titles. Twice, at least, before the results of the Compo05 were out. Thus, I thought I could drop a quick one here, to let the rest of the guys (and ladies) know about them.
So, thanks for the heads up, and my apologies if I sounded glum!
Oh! And nice episode, by the way; one of the best of the “new wave”. You never cease to amaze me, in your quest to further embarrass yourself for the sake of your audience. You know we love you for it, don’t you? :)
Erin Robinson is gorgeous, funny and talented.
I love how Anthony was like ‘Erin had picked out the games for the Free Indie Rapid Fire’ but she was mostly ambivalent about them. “Next up we got ‘Zombie Teddy Bear Whatever’. :D
“Myunekun” was all right, it was just way too hard. I like a good challenge don’t get me wrong, but at a certain point it just isn’t fun anymore. The dev could have at least told you what score you needed not to ‘rank out’ so you would know how close you got.
“Give Up Robot” is fun but… I’m just glad there were no baby’s in my vicinity. I made it to level 42 before I had to rage quit.
I didn’t vote last week for best PS1 game but, I can’t believe that Castlevania: Symphony of the Night did not get any votes. I mean come on a gorgeous 2D game with tight controls, innovative gameplay, and a rocking soundtrack, whats not to love? Now some of you will say that this game isn’t innovative and that its Super Metroid gone goth etc.
A) Super Metroid Rocked! and there wasn’t any other Metroid-style games on the PS1 so for people like me who liked that style of game this was pretty much it for that era. B) Samus could not turn into a Bat, Wolf, Cloud of mist etc. C) Inverted Castle.
hey i did mention symphony of the night as one of my top picks for the PS1. But FF7 is just superior in my book
I hope someone mentions Jazz Jackrabbit for the feedback. Green rabbit with a BFG copy saving his girlfriend from the evil turtle Devan Shell. Epic Mega games really lived up to their name with Jazz.
[...] funnier if he pretends to be an idiot on camera. And so, I practically subpoena you to check out this week’s Bytejacker. I talk a bit about the game, but mostly put up with with Anthony’s hijinx. See if you can [...]
@Joe Larson:
WOOOHOOO!!! Someone else who played Captain Cosmic! Wow! I thought I was the only one! You do remember Commander Keen right?
I may have to change my pick. Joe mentioned a couple of them that I hadn’t thought about.
Commander Keen was the one that showed us all how lame Captain Comic was. We put up with Captain Comic’s quirks because we didn’t think anyone could make an actual good platformer on in EGA graphics at the time. Once you got over the quirks to it was a really good game.
Poor lighting and some rambling ensues. I’m kind of changing my underrated hero answer to Yoshi. I totally think he’s one of the most underrated video game heroes.
Click to play this video.
Some more rambling about Yoshi, but in better lighting. I tried to be more concise. It’s a little rambly.
Click to play this video.
Actually, now that I think of it, I’m having a difficult time deciding who I think is more underrated. DANG!
Captain Olimar or Yoshi. Hmm. Well, Jon, whatever you think is more underrated you can make a judgement call and use.
Back again!! :D

Umm, wow. Erin is gorgeous.
Oh man, I would buy puzzle bots in a heartbeat if it were available for mac. Will probably by anyway, but lord, bootcamp is a hassle. Gotta get parallels or something going — can probably handle low-demand games like this no problem.

Take 2!
Good choice. I played that game a little. It was a pretty underrated game, but from what I played it was quirky and good.
Guh. I still can’t get around to playing the games. But I will after next week, for sure!
Also: PUZZLE BOTS! I’ve been waiting for this one for a while. Nanobots left me feeling like I had to play more.
