We’re taking a look at the first online, multiplayer Castlevania – Harmony of Despair for the 360. Also, Anthony finds out there’s more going on up on the roof than he thought.
RADAR: CASTLEVANIA: HARMONY OF DESPAIR
Platformer, XBLA, Konami, $15
Here’s something that sounds like a great idea: a new Castlevania that takes heroes from past entries in the series and puts them all together in a new, multiplayer, HD adventure. And here’s something that falls flat: “Castlevania: Harmony of Despair,” a new Castlevania that takes heroes from past entries in the series and puts them all together in a new, multiplayer, HD adventure

Ooh, cliffhanger.
Anthony, you didn’t say what game did YOU think was good as a kid that turned out to be unplayable now? Hard one for me to answer.
As a side note to Stream, it and rComplex are entered into http://www.indiepubgames.com/ and you can help the developer win a big pile of money and soul crushing contract. Which apparently he wants. And those two really are the best games I’ve found so mar of all the submissions. Well, rComplex at least was. So go, register, and vote for them.
It was Amagon for the NES: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRBEF1tRnqY
I remember being ridiculously in love with it – I was really into the art style, I thought the music was great, and the whole thing of turning into Megagon was just awesome. I’d freak out every time it happened.
It’s a terrible game. The art and collision are clumsy, the music is shrieky, and the control and difficulty level are just unbearable.
WHY COULDN’T WE GROW UP TOGETHER, AMAGON?! WHY COULDN’T WE GROW TOGETHER AS PEOPLE?
Oh, and additionally, while I’m thinking about it, “Halo Reach… around” was one of the funniest jokes I’ve heard in a while… as well as the latest entry on my list of terms I am terrified to google.
Video comment tomorrow or this weekend. promise.
Sheriff Sam was just… strange. I read its review on JIG and they even said that it may not be that fun, but it’s strangeness keeps you interested.
I’m not playing Stream because A) I can’t download anything this week, and B) It just looks like… oh I don’t know… some sort of Chronotron with guns.
I have yet to play Galaxy parade, but it seems like I may enjoy it with it’s progressive difficulty based on how well you’re doing. That seems like a nice concept.
Nice, looking forward to the next episode!
Love the cliffhanger ending!

I honestly find that galaxy parade either sucks, or I just suck at it.
And just get a permit. You’re a grown boymanadultbearpig thing.
Stream is trying to be PB Winterbottom and failing.
Galaxy Parade is crazy hard. You have to die to get lives to make any progress… tears indeed.
Sheriff Sam works though. Not too hard and completely hilarious dialogue.

and um what system is that castlevania game on? i’d like to DL it.
Click to play this video.
One take, and I’m gonna go with it.
FIRF – Galaxy Parade. See? I don’t hate punishing shooters. This one wins for making the punishing difficulty come as a direct result of your actions. Feel it’s too hard? It’s your own fault. Fire off the Vulcan cannon a bit and release some of that pressure. Plus it has a giant Pegasus in it. (I only saw it in the instruction, but it looked sweet.)
Feedback – Shattered childhood memories? Story of my life. But the crown I think goes to Robot Odyssey on the Apple ][e. Never mind the fact that I had no idea I wasn’t even scratching the surface of that game as a child, when I played it again recently I had no idea it was so SLOW. Laboriously slow. Painfully slow. Doing anything in that game took a half an hour. How was I able to tolerate this as a kid? Ah well, that’s what life was like in the world of tape drive and floppy disks that were actually floppy.

Wow sorry for the crazy video. I recorded this right before dinner time (spaghetti and meat balls!), that is why my mom and sister were bugging me :) O well
Sheriff Sam is my free indie pick of the week, and Star Wars Ep. 1: [Pod] Racer for the game boy color is my o so sad disappointment :’(
Hey guys, where is the voting system gone for Free Indie Rapid Fire?
The voting form is (still) only on the front page. COME ON ANTHONY! Edit those scripts and get that on the regular side bar already!
Until then you can click the home link to vote or go to http://www.bytejacker.com

What?! Carmen Sandiego was, is, and will forever be the bomb. So awesome it spawned a game show and cartoon, not to mention iterations of the game in every generation from the Apple IIe to today.
Besides, it might have been learning in a game, but if it was it didn’t work. I still can’t point out Zimbabwe on a map.
Man, I remember watching this one jumping up and down and cheering the kid on with my buddy who I was hanging out with.

And then a feeling of shame and embarrassment came over us both for acting like fools. Even so, after all these years, i can’t help but say:
“DO IT ROCKAPELLA!”
I give you that it was a classic franchise, but personally, I not getting any of the fun out of it now that I remember having back then.
Did you play the one that had quicktime movies? I actually rather enjoyed that one. And it had the chief from the game show.
I think that one was Where is the USA. I played that one and Where in Time. I guess at the age I played them they were great games, but it is the difference in my memory of them and going back to them now. Perhaps I’ve just become too hard ;-)

Next feedback question should be…..
What game did you hate as a kid but now love as an adult. Aha, reverse the question, that will be fun.
yeah that would be cool- or like “which game holds up the best from your childhood?/still fun today”
That have to be like Tetris or Super Smash Brothers.
So i had one of those player-choice 10 arcades as a kid.
Well needless to say not EVERY game was good from it. So My loved as a kid, but can’t stand now is Trojan Nes. Sorry i’m a bit late, but actualy had a intresting week.
