Everyone’s talking like they know Minecraft, but we’re talking to the one guy who actually does: its creator, Notch. We’ve also got Ashley King from 2 Girls 1 Game backing us up.

Minecraft puts you alone on an island with no possessions, no instructions, and hella zombies. It’s up to you to figure out how to use the terrain and resources around you to survive and build a life- and a rocket-powered mine cart- for yourself. It’s one of the most original and entertaining games we’ve played in a while, and we’ve got Markus Persson, it’s developer, to tell us all about how it came to be.

I laughed at how you pronounced L’Abbaye des Morts.
But I miss the roof, when you’re in the studio you don’t move as much (and the view was better up there).
Protesting with text comments.
There was originally a gag in there where I try to pronounce the game’s name for like 10 seconds, but I cut it for time.
Not sure if the studio is our final location or not, but until I get a handle on the workflow, its the easiest way for me to go. A controlled environment means less color/audio correction, no unexpected noises, etc.

Welcome back guys. I thought I submitted an answer to the last question but I guess not.
Well thanks to you anthony, for mentioning a game a month of two back. I’m hooked on it like a fat kid being hooked on candy. I don’t know which episode it was but you guys mentioned castlevania harmony of despair. I love this damn game. First game related to castlevania that I ever played was circle of moon for game boy. Now this one came out. Shanoa, soma, alucard, charlotte, and Jonathan are pretty much maxed out with the best weapons available to them. They just released a new level on Wednesday and is it damn fun!!!
Really? I couldn’t get into it. Glad you’re digging on it, though.
not sure how i feel about the studio. great episode anyway.
Yeah, not sure if that’s my permanent choice – but for right now, it simplifies a lot of the workflow for me. It might change once I get settled in.
Finally, bytejacker’s back! Hurray!

Welcome back , missed u Anthony!
You dont wanna know all the stuff i played all this time waiting for bytejacked to be back: Megaman battle network 1, 2, 3 white, 4 Red Sun, 5 team Protoman, 6 Gregar, Megaman 1,2,3; Silhouette Mirage, Castlevania SotN, Deus Ex invisible War, Recettear, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Spelunky (YES I STILL PLAY IT), Megaman ZX Advent, Castlevania Order of Ecclesia, The games from past week’s mini ludum dare (not as impressive), Jet Set Radio, Tactic Ogres TNOL, Advance Guardian Heroes… yeah i was lonely and bored :C
i’ve signed up twice for viddler and logged in four times. i cannot record a video. what up?
Same thing happened to me, I eventually decided to register at viddler.com and then it worked fine.
Logging in at viddler.com then logging in here sometimes fixes the problem.
The other option is to drop your hardware out of the third story window into your pool, tho the results of that are sketchy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyKK5U62GEc
Bytejacker + Minecraft. Excuse me while I vacuum the tiny, tiny pieces of what was my brain.
Welcome back, bytejacker.
(i was really getting worried)
Glad you’re back,
really started to miss the weekly show.
Welcome back!
For 2 weeks I’ve been checking every day to see if there was a new episode.
So to answer your feedback question.
You might not believe it..but I’ve been playing Minecraft. a LOT. We (me and my friends) actually made space invaders in the sky which was really fun.
About the episode though, the sound of the phonecall and the 2girls1game is a lot louder than when you talk in minecraft, that was kind of annoying.
Thanks for coming back!
Great episode, but whats up wit the volume? I had it at Max and could barely hear what was said in the minecraft part :<
The only problem was volume. I had to turn up the speakers to hear you and WAY down when Ashley talked so my ears didn’t get raped. Next time, try to keep your voice up, the sound at normal, and maybe guest voices down. It seems like you didn’t try to mess with the audio at all. Also, WTF was with the puppet rat thing?
I agree the audio was wacked. Sounds like when I use the wrong mic on my computer. And I know how hard it can be to edit the audio to fix it. Actually, there’s usually nothing you can do but waste your time trying. Mayhaps that was the reason for the delay, hmmm?
Oh, and don’t mention the rat. Maybe if we ignore him it’ll go away and NOT become a running gag.
I blame it on John not being here.
I blame Canada
It seems that everything’s gone wrong since Canada came along.
Blame Canada. Blame Canada. They’re not even a real country anyway
Scott Pilgrim’s from Canada.
BTW, some random quote from Youtube: “In the mysterious island of Canada, comic books have soundtracks. Everyone knows that.”
Hey welcome back! I’ve finally created an account just to say hi. I’ve been watching the show regularly since it got started, but I’ve mostly been in silent boring Ninja mode.
Hoping to see you on a roof next week, though!
okay so here’s a question. How do I buy minecraft if pay pall is not supported in my countrey, kind of sucks :(?

That’s alittle weird the time bytejackers was gone i was playing minecraft
Really glad ByteJacker is back…still reeling from the loss of Mr Rivera.
I get the concept behind a static consistent set and it’s benefits but i is a tad impersonal. But you gotta do what you gotta do… just don’t loose your personal flavor Mr Carboni. Also Dagger needs more screen time.
I miss Jon too, whatever happened to him?
Judging my the gravatar, he’s turned to the dark side… of the Matrix.
YAY BYTEJACKER BACK! i’m not sure about your studio (is it a rev3 one, kinda looks like the one they use for tekzilla). minecraft was a great game to re-open the show :)

Many happy returns!
FIRF – Goes to Doooors for Portal level innovation. Abbey of the dead was good for what it was, which wasn’t much, but it was good. Give up Robot 2 I thought would be easier than part 1… and it is not. But Dooooors gets my love. Any time you can manipulate the environment wins for me, and this took it to a whole new level.
What did I play over the break? Decided to give the indie games a break so I spent the whole time playing Halo, Modern Warfare, and Madden. Yeah right. I was playing Minecraft.
And a little bit of feedback for Anthony and the show: stand up and please add the voting form to the individual episode pages too. Please.

Why does everyone like to mock me and do what i do…..ughhh
Did you see the last episode? You do realize he was just kind of continuing the gag from it. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you make a video comment by candle light.
Don’t die on us Jon! Please! We need you!
By the way, re: Doctor Who, have you only been watching the new ones or the old ones too? I mean, Tennant is awesome, but you gotta get some Baker under your belt for true Who cred.
Baker?, BAKER!?! PAH, you need some Pertwee in your lives!! :P
I love the ep where he throws a bucket of chemicals on that giant robot to shrink it. There’s no FX like old FX.
Also, I keep hoping for the return of Bessy. Like he’s got some garage in the Tardis somewhere and he’s gonna drive bessy out the back. Man that was a beautiful car.
Maybe give bessy a “back to the future 2″ hoverflyer style makeover and engage in a dogfight with some daleks! that would be awesome!!
As a fan this should offend me. Yet I can’t think of it as anything but awesome.
Welcome back guy(s?) been away for the whole month and got some quality time with my DS, not just playing games either :P

Hey everyone, can I get your help? I have entered a contest for Lasik and I want to leverage my friends to help me get the best chances of winning new fully functional eyeballs. So please go to this video:

…and thumbs up. I need thumbs up. Thumbs up are how they’re counting this. So hit that thumbs up button. You don’t even need to watch the video. Just thumbs it up. Please, thumbs up. THUMBS UP! If you ever loved me. If I ever said anything that made you laugh or smile, then please do this little thing for me.
I’m not worthy.
Apparenlty thumbs-uping on youtube may not be what they want. You need to go to http://www.hoopesvision.com/contest/video.html and “like” my video there for it to count… I think. At the moment I’m in first place but the competition is stiff. Please help me win this thing!

Free Indie of the week pick for me is a close tie between Give Up Robot 2 and Doors but I gotta say DOORS!
So going bi-weekly gives us more time to dig into the games, I went and found a speed run video of L’Abbaye Des Morts and it turned me from “meh” to “WTFFFFFFFF”. Seriously, what’s the appeal of this game? Cryptic clues to hidden passages and non-sequetar solutions to bizarre puzzles? I know that back in the ZX-Spectrum days this sort of thing was normal, but now-a-days who plays and enjoys this sort of thing? The entire game is something like 16 screens that they keep you exploring by having passages and exits twist in on themselves like the Gordian knot. Even Ariadne’s clew wouldn’t help navigate this sort of contrived cartography.
If this game had been something like the Java4k challenge where the imposed limitations necessitated this sort of labyrinthine folding I could understand it. That’s why this sort of thing was done on the ZX-Spectrum. But I don’t know of anyone who enjoyed this sort of thing back then, much less now. Nowadays we can have an exploration mechanic by having a sprawling landscape to explore, not by twisting passages in on themselves and confusing the player.
Obviously some people like this sort of game. Nostalgia plays some part of that. Did you know the word “Nostalga” literally means “pain of memory”. And that’s what this game is, a painful reminder that games weren’t better back in the day, no matter what you want to believe.
I gotta get on my back log of rants so that I can add this one to it.

Wow, that really annoying buzz white noise type sound is the fan I put under my laptop to keep it cooler. It’s getting old and heat has become an issue with performance…it’s like my computer’s arthritis. I’ll work on the sound quality of my video responses in the future.

First minute, how Tom might be able to improve his sound.
The next 4 1/2 minutes is me rehashing what I said in a YouTube rant video about how StarCraft 2 was deeply disappointing to me. The channel, if you care, is called MrJoeRants on YouTube, but I make some new points.
I forgot to mention how Blizzard’s choice to make StarCraft 2 so hardware intensive was also a betrayal of StarCraft. StarCraft, when it came out, was behind spec, but that only served to broaden their audience. StarCraft 2, on the other hand, abandoned probably 50% of their core audience, that core audience being internet cafes in Korea who are running on a shoestring budget already and likely could not afford upgrades for every one of their stock of machines, so, ya know, good job again there Blizzard. Friggin’ morons.
Reading this article makes be feel like I’m on the precipice of a gaping yaw into the depths of stupidity that Blizzard has become.

I’m definitely in favor of sc2, but that’s mainly because I have a different perspective of the game than you Joe, but that’s okay. I understand where you’re coming from. Hence my video response.
Oh man, and the whole cheating thing, I can agree that it is bogus. You should be able to cheat in anything involving AI battles, but not online matches. I say that because of league play and how cheating could screw up placement and everything and get people to unfair places, but come on! Not even in AI matches? A simple solution is just marking that cheating was used in the match in records of the battle and not allow it to affect any other records, including win loss records or league records.
BTW, the screen capture makes me look like I’m picking my nose. Sometimes the video response thumbnails can be oh so unforgiving.
Quit massaging your brain on video, man.
You should really watch my “StarCraft 2 Sucks” video to see my ideas for what I wanted to see. Most of these are ideas I came up with back when I played StarCraft 2 all those years ago.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bzs1wPS_Kg4
After listening to this a couple of time I realize I didn’t express myself as well as I should have, I did a much better job in the video comment above, but it’s funny how your comments echoed mine so closely. “Hybred races…. entirely new race.” Yeah, I’m there with you. Or rather you’re there with me. Just watch the video. Hold on to the end. past the 3:18 mark I actually go into some detail. And it’s funny because I came up with these ideas after playing StarCraft 1 and you’re coming up with them after playing StarCraft 2, just emphasizing how much they are the same experience.
You bring up a good point about the fact that you never played StarCraft 1, and with more than a decade between them there are more than a few players I’m sure who are like you, and in that way Blizzards choice could be justified, but I have a hard time believing that ever crossed their mind any more than fleetingly. Like they were actually going “We’d love to do something new, but we should probably let new gamers catch up first. Gosh, we hate to do this.” More like “Any way we can justify not spending any more time and money on development? New gamers? Good idea, go with that and clone the original.”
And maybe I was wrong about the hardware issue. I didn’t have any problem running it on my desktop machine. My poor old laptop couldn’t even dream of it, but that’s no surprise. I had heard that others had problems with it, but maybe not.
It sounds like what the expansions have promise, and I’m glad your excited about them, but for me it’s too little too late. Unless they released the expansions for free, issued a public apology for banning single player cheaters, and give everyone who purchased the game a toblerone, I will hold on to my assertion that this is the last nail in Blizzard’s coffin.
Good Bob Almighty that’s a massive block of text! If I had my video camera that would be a 12 minute video comment. I really need to be more concise. no one is going to read all that.
Thanks for this amazing game. My first day of playing Minecraft and I was up till 4am.
