[..YouTube..] My pick for free indie of the week is auditorium. Why? because it has done something no other game has done yet. combine a music game with partical physics and gravity physics.
This game was one of the best indie games i’v played in a long time… if this comes out for the Xbox live arcade I would gladly pay even 2000 MSpoints for it. That’s how good it is. Play this game. Your in for a good time.
There’s only “BLIPTV EMBED CODE”. Where’s the video?

[..YouTube..] You sound oddly calm while explaining the games… and did you use different equipment for it?

Wow! Cool new titles! I’m also guessing you’re going widescreen for the new YouTube, which is OK, I guess. But where’s the pizazz? I felt you just told me “here are three games, now go and play them”. But as far as I can tell Auditorium is probably the best game in there, but I’ve yet to play them yet.
Widescreen is something we’ve been toying with doing for a while now, for a couple reasons. The Indie stuff comes in all kinds of crazy resolutions, so staying 4:3 doesn’t necessarily mean that stuff will always make the best use of the screen area. On the other hand, just about all of the XBLA/WiiWare stuff is widescreen, and they usually have a bit more graphically to show off. It also has to do with a lot of the current PMPs being widescreen — the iPhone/iPod Touch, of course, but also for people who own the N-Series stuff and people like me who have G1s.
The Youtube thing was definitely the final push towards it, though. The only thing worse than watching Youtube make your video ugly and low-res is watching them make it ugly and low-res and THEN slapping bars on the sides.
Re: Pizazz – Man, I tried. But it was literally 20 degrees and the winds were about 15 miles an hour up there. We’re definitely moving off the roof starting next week.
G1! B)
I like the improved video quality. Not sure about the format, yet, as the video area has become smaller. I’m generally not a widescreen guy and love my 4:3 CRTs although I have been thinking about getting a widescreen CRT for a while now. :D
Anthony, man. You gotta cheer up. Forget moving inside. You could do your job in Hawaii couldn’t you?
Oh, man, 3 unbelievable choices this week. Auditorium, saw it, played it, loved it.
Night of the Cephalopods, saw it, passed it the first time, gonna have to play it again. Seppukuties, oh my, I never heard of this one before. It’s like it was ripped straight from my brain. How do I choose?
Yeah, I guess that makes sense. I wouldn’t put anything against it.
Anyway, I’ve played through all of the games now, and Auditorium is definitely my favourite. It’s like a music game, but with puzzle elements from keeping it from becoming stale. Also, it looks superb.
I still think Night of the Cephelopods is ingenious for its hilarious narration, although it only lasts for 10 minutes. I think it lasts for a little longer though, since you’re trying to find a new sound clip.
And Seppukuties is probably my least favourite because, well, it’s just too violent for me. I’m always too attached to game characters though, and the puzzle elements save it from being disastrous.
Bias-O-Meter=3 – Firstly because two of the games are flash based. And secondly because I already played with the Cephs game. Oh and thirdly one games has a level editor…
Auditorium is an interesting game though the idea of combining music and a challenge isnt new nor is one with a physics engine. Unless you are a patient picker for puzzle games, it wont be for you.
Night of the Cephalopods is an amusing horror piece and yes the narration with its rather emotional tone did add alot to what would have been a vanilla flavored top down shooter. If it was more than just a short dev with more levels. It could have been my pick.
Seppukuties is a game of mixed flavors. On the one hand there is the blatent satirical theme, the touchy physics handling, especially on animal corpses to be used as platforms, and puzzle like levels which also mandate killing the creatures. On the other hand the puzzles are okay challenge wise. Okay so NofC would have gotten the vote but I am also a sucker for level editors…
On the Indie of the Year note, Iji will be getting a pretty major patch soon which tweaks some gameplay elements, revises areas of the script, and even gives players the option to complete the whole thing without killing *anyone*.
That, plus the fact that the already-great soundtrack got a high quality version means that everyone should check it out again soon.
Anthony, I say you did a great job for having to do the ENTIRE episode alone this week! I truly feel like I missed out ;) We’ll be back to our shenanigans like normal next week though with the exception of the roof cause I don’t feel like having my fingers fall off again :)
Good games too btw!
