Special Guest Edmund McMillen shares his picks for Free Indie Rapid Fire this week:
A New Zero: Windows, combat sim, Cryptic Sea – LINK
Karoshi Factory:: Windows, puzzle platformer, Jesse Venbrux – LINK
I Wish I Were the Moon: Windows, puzzle, Daniel Benmurgui – LINK

[..YouTube..] Karoshi factory, by far.
also, LOL Ed McMillen has rock band
[..YouTube..] I loved “I wish I were the moon”‘s gameplay and general feel of originality so I have to choose that. Anyone who liked that should also check out Stroyteller (another from Ludomancy) and also The Majesty Of Colours (Gregory Weir).
I liked Karoshi Factory but it didn’t really made me go ‘oh man’. I first played I Wish I Were the Moon a few days but I couldn’t get the final ending — watching todays episode showed me how to get that, haha.
A New Zero is a definite win though, all because it’s just technically amazing imho.
Anthony, I didn’t know you lived in a crazy space dimension.
I only moved to the crazy space dimension because it was a shorter commute to work. Honestly, I liked my old neighborhood better.
*rimshot*
Lets hope you don’t stay in the crazy space dimension.
Great, two games I’ve never hear of! Lots of playing to do. A New Zero looks kinda crazy! I look forward to trying it.

@Elmernite – I think the crazy space dimension is our HQ for the rest of winter. Which is a shame, as I am quickly running out of oxygen.
Noooooo, Anthony! Step back into the light! We don’t want to lose you forever!!!
*coughs*
Anyway, I don’t think any of these indies are good to me IMO. If I had to pick though, it would probably be A New Zero for its awesome gameplay and technical achivements, although Karoshi Factory already has me stumped…
You fool! We in the digital age care not for air now! Pixels sustain us! Rawr!
Bias-O-Meter=4 – If you’ve played one Karoshi game, you’ve seen almost all of it, I am just that good at multitasking, I used to have a handy joystick for sim games but now my skill in such is nil, and I already played through the I wish I were the moon game before this, not that that’s a bad thing.
The Karoshi game is like the previous versions, where you kill the business person, but done with more than one person. Unless you are good at the multitasking, you wont miss much of this experience by playing one of the previous Karoshi versions because its most of the same thing.
A New Zero is an interesting game from the basics sense. You could say its one of those fancy wartime sims but stripped down to the basics that make such experiences pretty fun. I wish I could say more but my serious lack of skill in said sim games means I cant even describe beyond, the game is okay if you like and are good at sim games.
I wish I were the Moon is a curious game though it cant be called that in the conventional sense of games. You are given a situation and using a ‘grabber’ you try and manipulate the situation into one of the five endings. If anything it probably could and yet couldnt be more than it is because of how simple it is by design and presentation. It would be neat to see more of these or at least we could do with more whimsical style games to make you think on what you see and feel.
I voted “I Wish I Were The Moon” because the world needs more games inspired by Italo Calvino stories. Now someone needs to adapt “If On a Winter’s Night A Traveler” into Interactive Fiction asap!
Crazy space dimensions don’t need no oxygen!
Karoshi Factory just gave me a ’3rd in a series’ feeling where it’s just the same release as before but with a twist. It didn’t really tickle my fancy at all.
@ Mopsical – You have to pick one, this is Bytejacker Dome; three Indie’s enter, one Indie leaves.
Didn’t you see Jon dressed like Tina Turner?
I thought Karoshi Factory was too much like the first one. Not bad, but more of a straightforward puzzler/platformer than the boundary-pushing second in the series.
I Wish I Were the Moon is my pick. I was able to send it my non-gamer friends, and they all enjoyed it.
A New Zero doesn’t sound like my kind of game.
I hate to pee on your parade, but the “technical achievement” in A New Zero has been done quite a bit by the European Demoscene. Usually it’s done for the sake of creating a cool tech demo / music video hybrid, but a few times they’ve made games that fit in 96k or some other tiny form factor.
Check out ‘kkrieger’.
Still, I love the look of this game! I wish more people made old-school 3D games. I don’t mean to say pixelated 2D looks bad, but it seems like every other indie game is a pixelated 2D game!
@Lourens:
What kinda’ show is this? Where I come from, everyone’s a winner, all of the time.
Anyway, I would probably pick I Wish I Were The Moon on this one, for its interesting take on puzzle games and multiple endings, you know, if I was picking one, that is.
Careful Mopsical I may quote you on that! ;)
Oh, you better. Make sure you get to making the t-shirt as well.
All proceeds will go to the Mopsical Home for Disgruntled Gamers.
Damn straight.
Oh, so you can’t afford a teleprompter but have a crazy space dimension?
I don’t HAVE a crazy space dimension. I’m just IN one. No one can claim ownership of the craziness of space.
