[..YouTube..] That was great you guys. Looking forward towards next year.
[..YouTube..] YUSS THE HOODIE!!
Lol that was great, dyson would fucking rock with multiplayer support. It would be so peaceful and yet so competitive. Plus you could actually have time to use the in-game chat :P
[..YouTube..] Congrats everyone who got nominated.
[..YouTube..] Great show guys, I’l definately be waiting for the next new episode.
**I still love you Seven Minutes*
Sorry about the Youtube embed. High quality will be up later this morning.
Woo Free Indie of the Year!
Anthony and Jon, you guys have managed to put together a show that keeps getting better with each episode. Awesome jobs all around. Here’s hoping 2009 brings even more Bytejacker goodness to our monitors.
Also: LONG LIVE THE PI…uh I mean SALMON HOODIE!
Hmmm. I at least thought Rescue the Beagles would get a little bit further, but Iji deserves everything it gets. It truly is an outstanding game.
Also, SALMON SWEATER FTW! I know you put it on for me, Anthony. It wouldn’t be a normal episode of Bytejacker without it!
[..YouTube..] I fully agree, haha.
My main fear with Dyson is how the team will develop the game mechanics in the finished version.
Part of its beauty is how its simplicity in comparison with other RTSs manages to hide such great depth; too many new additions in terms of types of seeds and asteroid types, or just new mechanics, may very well do more harm than good.
That being said, excellent episode. Loved the hoodie part.
And thanks for entertaining us so much; can’t wait for next year’s installments.
[..YouTube..] YOU SHOULD BE ON TV!!!
from the frist episode i knew that bytejacker is a great and entertaining show. and you guys proved it every week…
now, i have to check out dyson…! the only one that i havent played yet from that list ;)
[..YouTube..] how to open an door with 8bit killer?
Yesssssss!!!!! Free Indie of the Year!
This is so cool! Almost(Maybe it is) the best episode of the year! Loved the jacket part. Cracked me up!
I’m really happy Iji won! It deserved it.
I cannot wait till 2009! Bring it on!
My mission in game making is to get a game on the ByteJacker show. It doesn’t even have to win free Indie of the Week. I just want to hear you say Free Indie Rapid Fire then the name of my game. Time to get cracking.
-Elmernite
I waited and watched fairly sure about iji’s victory. All the games are polished and well made the list has the best free indie games of the year of the most part. After replaying Barkey Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden I was hoping there would be a review. I love the theme song. Iji another game of the year victory goes to you.
Great episodes Bytejacker is one of the few online video sites I ever go to other than looking for game trailers and previews. No doubt is is the best.
Thanks from Jon

Video comments FTW!! Woot!
[..YouTube..] HOORAY! Iji won! I wasn’t really expecting the game I voted on to win.
[..YouTube..] Iji? Are you kidding? That game felt so clunky and dated. And please stop going on about the storyline and moral choices, it was shallow and trying to be something it could never achieve.
[..YouTube..] Iji FUCK YEAR!
thank you too jon!
bytejacker forever
YES
salmon…riiiiight…*cough*PINK*cough*
@sockpuppet
Talk about jumping late on the bandwagon.
@Jon
Thanks for the video message, you guys definitely deserve your break.
Merry Christmas Bytejacker!
Good to see Iji in at #1, although not too surprising. It’s pretty much the new Cave Story – a really professionally put together indie game, developed over many years by a single developer, and released for the rather nifty price of ‘free’.
The aformentioned 1.3 patch sounds especially good. Apparently it’ll be possible to play through the whole game without killing anyone.
Jon, Anthony, congrats ona great first year for Bytejacker, the show is a joy to watch so keep it coming :-)
IJI is a great game and I am superhappy it got to no1, thatis where it should be. We are of course delighted with the our 2nd spot whic is certainly higher up than I expected us to get :-D so Yay al over!
Secretofmuffin, we are aware that accessibility and simplicity is the name of the game with Dyson, and although we will add to the experience we certainly won’t swamp the player with too much new stuff. Kep an eye out and you will see :-D
Any way, well done to all otjher finalists as well, the show has made it clear how many great indie games are being made right now. This bodes well for next year!
[..YouTube..] iji was overrated, I agree, but the rest of the list was pretty solid. i dont think dyson should be number 2, either, though, its pretty, its also pretty boring.
[..YouTube..] yep iji my pick as well. great game. great music. great story. whats not to love?
As for me, I was really surprised, that Iji became indie-game of the year. And I’m very glad about it! My congratulations to Daniel, other people, who worked on Iji, and to all, who wanted to hear it: “And the indie game of the year is… Iji!”. ^_^
P.S. “Organ smash” rule!
P.P.S. Thanks to Anthony and Jon. You, guys, making a really good and interesting videos.
I’m glad Iji won it’s my favorite indie game, I hope he makes more extras like cheats, or maybe a survival mode. Now that I think about it that could work in Dyson too. Anyway, great show guys i look forward to next year.
@Mopsical
research previous video comments :)
Thanks for all the kind words, guys! We couldn’t be happier with how the show’s been received. I promise we’ve got some really great stuff planned for you in the coming year.
For all the Dyson fans out there, if you haven’t listened to my interview with Rudolf yet, make sure you do. He’s got some excellent stuff to say about the future of the game, and about game design in general. Here’s the link:
http://www.bytejacker.com/blog/interview-rudolf-kremers-dyson
Thanks again for watching! You guys rule!
As soon as you can review Sonny 2, please!!!
@anthony
you know your games well :), talking about the space quest remark :)
[..YouTube..] I hate @bytejacker, he is so damn annoying.. :-P
but i agreed with their reviews.
@sockpuppet:
Look closely. I’m there too :D
What is the game at 1:05 in the video?
Homestly, this is the worst episode ever in terms of presentation. The “jacket joke” or whatever it was is just making us go like “WTF?”, the so-much-yelled-phrase “free indie of the year” was already getting on my nerves. The background in the scene is too flashy and you can see reflections in Anthony’s eyeglasses.
I absolutely adored bytejacker when it was (OMG, it was just a couple of months ago!) on the roof and much simpler, much more “indie”, without any feel of speciality attached to this word. It would be great if we saw you in a flat or in some shop or wherever, but not with that background. More than that, it would be great if Anthony will stop overacting *too much*.
No, of course this critique doesn’t mean you are doing a bad show at all! The games are amazing, the competition is awesome, found out about a couple of websites and indie developers with you guys, and it’s great, I mean it. It’s just that there are things which you have probably thought would be better, but they were worse (in my insignificant opinion, of course).
Anyway, eager to see your next one :D
@Divvy – The game is Bootfighter Windom XP SP-2, and you can check out more video of it in this episode: http://www.bytejacker.com/episodes/010
@ Wanlusha – Sorry you don’t dig the new format that much but your criticism is certainly welcome. We all love shooting on the roof and/or on location and that’s certainly not in the past. However it’s dangerously cold here in NY now and in order for us to regularly bring you the show, you’ll have to take it for what it is. You also have to keep in mind that just the two of us make this entire show and work regular jobs so it’s an incredibly difficult thing to keep up as we have.
Overall, I’m glad you enjoy the show and although visually we may look a bit less-indie, our content hasn’t changed a bit . . . . . . plus I kinda dig it! Thanks for watching.
PS: If we become famous enough to afford professional lights and grip gear I’ll be able to position the lights to avoid reflections, but then again we wouldn’t be indie would we ;) Cheers!
Jon doesn’t want to shoot on the roof anymore because he sold out. He also wants our next episode to be all about GTA 5 and thinks we should hire a hot, female spokemodel co-host to stand next to me and read game reviews off a teleprompter “for sex appeal.”
It’s like I don’t even know him anymore.
…
But I agree with the hot spokesmodel thing.
[..YouTube..] I loved Iji… The art was kinda meh… But it was lengthy, yet fun. Plus the soundtrack was glorious. Think I’m going to try out 8-bit Killer now.
I wasn’t going to say anything about the hot co-host but I guess everyone knows now! :)
I’m really happy that Iji is at #1. This comment is directed at those of you who hate it: For those of you who just look at the graphics, you’re really missing out. Are you so jaded that good graphics that let you see the sweat off of a character make a game good? Nope! That should be the icing on an excellently made cake!. Iji is at #1 because it is so perfectly polished that every aspect of the game shines. If you can’t see the little things (perfectly tight controls, little details in the background, the journals) then you should have your gamer title revoked.
Yeah. It’s a harsh statement, but true.
I was hopping for Rescue the Beagles to take #1 since it was my vote for indie of the year, but fourth ain’t bad and I can’t say lji’s #1 is a surprise, it is an awesome game and huge for something developed by a single person. I’m hoping the new patch makes playing pacifist more interesting since that was one of it’s few flaws.
@Jon and Anthony
Great first year guys! I’m looking forward to seeing what you have in store for us next year!
Forget the hot spokesmodel, just give Jon more time on camera. ;)
I’m sure you guys are already planning a show around april called “Return to the Rooftop!”
Happy Holidays you two crazy guys. I look forward to a great 2009 of more awesomeness, interviews and reviews.
What, no video on Thursday? Fine, but you had better post all the earlier the next day. [/scrooge]
I liked your outdoor shots better than the animated backdrop ones. Those are okay once in a while, but not all the time. I prefer something more casual. Even you on your chair or couch was okay, even tho that was a gag. But the restaurant was also okay. It’s just my opinion, but I prefer the casual shots.
Hello
I have just discovered this site. Where can I find the full list with all the 18 games? I couldn’t find it anywhere on the blog.
Thanks
ehi Antony, why don’t you answer me? Please answer!

The games were:

Bootfighter Windom XP SP-2
Love
Mighty Jill Off

You can find links for the games we cover in each episode in the show notes for that episode.
@Ivan – Hi! If there’s a game you’d like to see covered on the show, email a link to it to games@bytejacker.com and we’ll check it out. Thanks!
ok ;)
[..YouTube..] lame
[..YouTube..] Stop jerking off your computer! See me and enliven your senses!!!
DATEHERWOW…DOT…COM
[..YouTube..] Yeaa :) TeeWorlds !
Thanks for the list Anthony
[..YouTube..] Well, Iji was good and entertaining, but I still think Dyson is far superior
[..YouTube..] Hey, awesome music! If I’m not mistaken, it’s from the album Embarrassing Triangle by iqtu.
[..YouTube..] And…hmm… EvilWezil maybe?
[..YouTube..] Spot on with both! If you check the credits you’ll see all the great stuff the guys from II Music let us use for this episode. I’m a huge fan of their stuff, so it was great to get their permission to include it in the show.
[..YouTube..] Fantastic music… thanks for posting!
[..YouTube..] Chris Geehan here, composer (mainly) of the Iji soundtrack. I didn’t expect anything less for Iji, as Dan put alot of work into it and it was a pleasure working with him. Thanks for this video, was a good watch, some good games in here.
This advice is really going to help, thanks.
