An interview with Yacine Salmi, founder of Piece of Pie studios, about their upcoming PC/Console game, “Swimming Under Clouds.”
The game revolves around a fish, suspended in a bubble of water, as it explores the world. The amount of water around you serves as your life bar – as you get hit, you lose more water. You can also use water as jets or ammo, but have to be careful to conserve it.
The game has a very heavy Yoshi’s Island vibe, but with some serious physics modeling. Since Yacine used to be a developer over at Havok, that makes a lot of sense.
The art was also all created by Orioto, who you probably know from his HD re-imaginings of classic games: http://orioto.deviantart.com

So “gish-like” is a genre now? They’re doing something cool with the relation between size and health. Be neat if you could add a joust/osmos aspect with absorbing bigger water blobs too.
Still, one to look out for if for the art only.
It has a very different feel than Gish when you play it, but I definitely see the comparison. Calling it a mix of Gish and Yoshi’s Island wouldn’t be a bad elevator pitch for it.
Yeah, Orioto is amazing. I have so much of his art as desktop wallpaper. It’s interesting to finally see his stuff in motion.
