Today we play the Metagame against Destructoid’s Tara Long! What’s the Metagame? It’s a collectible card game about video games! It debuted at GDC and was a huge hit, and now the creators have a fundraiser going to make it a real, honest-to-goodness thing you can buy and play! We’ve talked about it before here and here.
If you want a deck of your own, go donate to their Kickstarter! There isn’t much time left: GO GO GO!
And watch Tara 3 times a week on The Destructoid Show: http://www.revision3.com/destructoid

Tara, as much as I’d like to vote for you because… you know… you’re easier to look at, I gotta go with Anthony on this one. I’ve seen the angry birds movie and I wasn’t impressed as a movie.

No, wait, were you talking about this one:

Wait, were you talking about the Hitchcock movie?
You know what, screw it. ROCKY!
USA! USA!
Totally agree with Anthony on this one. Punch Out might as well be Rocky.

Voting with Anthony, and not just because this is his site or redheads make me uncomfortable.
Ahahaha, the Lord of the Rings bit. I love you, Sanskrit. <3
I was gonna vote for Anthony, too, but apparently Bytejacker doesn't agree with my choice:
Bytejacker is a huge Tara fan, apparently.
Dude, if ever there was a time for a “one-sentence answer/Def Jam mic drop,” it was that question paired with that game.
I STAND BY MY ACTIONS.
You could’ve pulled Metal Gear Solid. “Now if they asked which was more of a GAME…”
Oh man, MGS4 is totally the trump card for that particular question.
Now that’d be funny. Keep a MGS card up your sleeve and play it for EVERY one and see how many you win.
Man, as selfish as this is, I wish that Kickstarter would totally hurry up and END ALREADY just so I could get my deck of cards.
I was explaining the Metagame to my roommate today, and he said “So it’s like Apples To Apples,” but with video games? And at first I was like “no,” but man, wouldn’t that totally be the best mode ever? Get 6 or 7 game nerds in a party environment, use the game cards as red cards and the question cards as green cards, and bam, you’ve got a game.
On the Updates section of the Kickstarter, it says “The Kickstarter version of the Metagame will include rules for playing with small groups, for playing with a classroom-sized group of players, and for playing at large events. Rules will be made available as part of the decks themselves and also online.” I wonder if an Apples-to-Apples-ish variant if something they’ve considered already?
Tell your friends to get involved, because they’ve got about a week left to raise nearly $4,000 or they don’t get any funding at all, which means we don’t get any cards at all.
I want to play this game all the time, but you have to be with true gaming nerds because average joe gamer doesn’t know Civilization from Spelunky (I still have friends who refuse to acknowledge Canabalt as a game. Good friends, bad gamers).
I wish I knew enough gamers RL to make it worth getting. The Birds comparison is pretty good, but Punch Out is Rocky. …and I wanna see a hot angry redhead. Carboni loses that side of the battle atleast.
I went with Anthony. Sorry Tera, but as far as material goes, boxing has more potential. Nice job anthony.
Here’s the sad state of affairs:
Even though both of their arguments were terrible, Tony’s was bad by far. Not everybody knows the game, and you could’ve made an eloquent point that left no bit of doubt.
So in the end, while I think Tony won the round (Punch Out is more like a movie), I think that if this round came down to debating skills he would’ve lost.
I don’t even know if I want to vote on this and give Tony the credit. B) I like you the rest of the time though, bro. :( <3
1) Don’t worry about it too much, it’s a game to promote a project I love.
2) My name is actually Anthony.
Play
Anthony is the winner.
If anything, the reason i went with Anthony is the fact that the angry birds movie is based on a game and the game punch out is some what based off a movie which would mean its the most movie like.
zup, Im new here
had to vote for Tara, it must be the eyes! hehe
[...] getting some great online press about the project. Bytejacker played a round of the Metagame, and graphic design guru Steve Heller blogged about it too. Look out for more press [...]
